I don't know about the rest of you f#cked gaijin, but there is one food that really puts me to the pin of my collar to eat, and that is raw squid. Unfortunately I just happen to live in the squid capital of Japan. Everything here in Hachinohe is squid. Now I find this article about how squid guts give off gas, and I'm wondering about this big pile of squid somebody dumped on my morning walking route. I think I'll get my wife to call city hall and get it picked up or something.

Three of four crew members found dead Sunday aboard a South Korean vessel at a fishing port in Oda, Shimane Prefecture, may have died from lack of oxygen due to a gas caused after the guts of squid in the hold of the ship rotted, police and Japan Coast Guard officials said Tuesday.

According to their investigation, the surviving crew member was Kim Jung Back, captain of the vessel, the Dong Woo, which was used to transport the internal organs of squid to be processed into salted guts. The hold of the ship was divided into 19 sections, investigators said, adding that they found rotten squid guts in two sections of the hold where the three men and Kim were found.

The police strongly suspect the two sections had become filled with poisonous gas generated by the rotten internal organs.

You're just over-reacting. Anything that rots gives off gasses, and enough of that in an enclosed environment will overcome you. Nothing bad is going to happen to you from getting a whiff of rotting squid on the street. Can't be any worse than taking a walk in an old chinatown when garbage service has been interrupted.
