Space Tourist Agency Aims to Send Japanese to ISS

A U.S. space travel agency and a Japanese advertising firm aim to send a "prominent Japanese figure" to the International Space Station aboard a Russian Soyuz, the Space Adventures company said on Tuesday.

The Japanese tourist, who has not yet been identified, would travel to the orbiting outpost in the next several years, Space Adventures, Ltd., said in a statement.

The firm, based outside Washington in Arlington, Virginia, said it was working with Dentsu, a Japanese advertising agency, on this venture.

Japanese tourist heads for space station

The next space tourist to visit the International Space Station will be selected from a group of "prominent Japanese figures," the privately held American travel firm Space Adventures said Wednesday.
The tourist will fly to the space station aboard a Russian Soyuz space capsule sometime in 2005 or 2006, becoming a member of an elite group of entrepreneurs who have bought their way into space.
