Hardly a revelation is it?

I taught at an elementary school part time for about 3 years. None of the teachers were trained in teaching English - yet because the school was chosen to be a pioneer in English education - they had to. Most of the teachers tried really hard (keep in mind that they could not speak English themselves too!). The school couldn't have done it without the help of native language instructors.

Which is fair enough considering in how many other fields they need to be "experts" in.

Of course any criticism should be aimed at Junior High school teachers who claim to be English teachers and freak out at a question like "How are you?"...
