Average Director compensation is JPY32mTerrie's Take/Sunday, July 04, 2004 Issue No. 285
The Nikkei has released a survey showing that the average yearly compensation paid to directors of Japanese listed companies is JPY32m ($290,000). The actual amounts ranged from JPY200m ($1.8m) at Nissan, down to JPY10m ($90,000) at the lowest firm in the 100-company sample. In the same survey, the Nikkei determined that the average annual employee salary was JPY8m ($72,700), thus giving a director-employee differential of about 4 times. In comparison, the Nikkei reckons that US companies have a differential of more than 20 times.
