Ok, ok it's OBON but the purpose is the sort-of the same including the lanterns. The 13th of Julyis first day of traditional OBON when the Japanese light a fire to welcome the spirits of family ancestors back. Ever serious about their religion, the Japanese moved OBON to next month so the travel industry could make more money selling tickets for two OBON periods.
