NHK seeks charges against producer
The Asahi Shimbun / July 24
Japan Broadcasting Corp. (NHK) filed a criminal complaint Friday against two individuals, including a fired producer, believed to have orchestrated a kickback scheme that netted them at least 48 million yen.
NHK Chairman Katsuji Ebisawa said Katsumi Isono, the 47-year-old chief producer, was fired effective Friday... Isono also received kickbacks from production expenses paid to the event-planning company while he was in charge of such popular programs as the ``Kohaku Utagassen'' (Year-end red and white song competition) broadcast live on New Year's Eve./
NHK officials said they were unsure of the exact amount in kickbacks received by Isono because his memory was fuzzy. The money was used to wine and dine entertainment production company executives, NHK officials said.
