Check out the hard right turn of Typhoon Meari!
Via Reuters AlertNet Typhoon Meari is forecast to first strike Japan [southern islands] at about 20:00 GMT on 28 September....

Just tuned into the weather Chanel on the BS. Looks like Typhoon Meari is going to do the grand tour smack down the middle of Japan.

I think Japan is worlds more prepared for Typhoons than Fla was for thhose Hurricanes.

Nah. It's just that the mountainous terrain does a good job of breaking up typhoons. For a real feel of what typhoons are like you should visit Cape Ashizuri, the Kii Penisula, or Kagoshima during one.

That's right.

I was in Kumamoto for number 19 in '91 . The first time I had experienced a typhoon so it was a real eye opener.

Right now in Oita prefecture the rain is comin down hard. I turned on NHK and saw that we were about to go into the "red circle" as soon as we did the wind whipped up and now things are looking particularly nasty.
