Which begs the question - why settle down if there's plenty of squeeze left in that sponge and your life is how you like it?

At the risk of being pedantic she's not actually referring to her job in Japan in that comment. It seems she's talking about the time she spent working as a substitute teacher at her old schools in the States.

Having said that I'm not sure she or the people mentioned in the article would be the sort to describe the JET Programme as a 'career' move.
