Thirty-seven people, passengers and a driver of a sightseeing bus stranded overnight atop the vehicle on a flooded national highway in Maizuru City, Kyoto Prefecture, were rescued Thursday morning by helicopter and rubber raft of the Maritime Self-Defense Force (MSDF) and other organizations.
The 37 people had been stranded on the bus since Wednesday evening when the bus stalled in water overflowing from a nearby river in Maizuru City. At one point, the water level exceeded the rooftop of the bus, forcing all the people to spend the night atop the vehicle.
