Minister pushes revival of national achievement exams
Asahi Shimbun, Japan - Nov 4 To raise student performances, education minister Nariaki Nakayama on Tuesday called for a nationwide reinstatement of unpopular achievement tests to heighten competition.
Similar achievement tests had been virtually abolished in the 1960s because of criticism they produced overly fierce competition among schools and localities. ...
