"I'm for a fair election. How about you?"
Asahi: Japanese icon urges fair vote in Ukraine
A common sight in Japan's shop windows is urging fair play in Ukraine's presidential vote Sunday, the country's second election in less than two months. The maneki-neko (beckoning cat) posters, featuring the words "I'm for a fair election. How about you?" appear at 33,000 polling stations around the country.
...The Japanese government paid 4.5 million yen for the cat posters, which were produced jointly by the Japanese Embassy in Kiev and a local nongovernmental organization. It all started when an NGO staffer fell in love with the image in an overseas edition of a Japanese magazine and thought it would be a great way to urge people to vote.
