From what I have seen on TV shows that feature the lives of J-SDF women, my tea crack is not far off the mark. You can take the Japanese girl out of the (mainstream) culture, but you can't take the culture out of the girl.

I didn't imagine there would even be female SDF soldiers...

Way back in the days when I used to be employed by Uncle Sam I did a lot of training with the GSDF. There are a lot of females in the communications areas. Most are phone operators or administration. I suppose they are also in the medical areas too.
Yes, it does seem that a lot of their duties involve making tea. :?
They also have rape whistles attached to their uniforms. I don't think the whistles get much use though as I have only seen one decent woman out of all the GSDF troups.

I'll completely with you on this one. While doing my stint and training in Japan, I also noticed a few women in the JGSDF, though they weren't exactly memorable. Plus, I saw them do a lot more work in Class A's (olive green dress uniform w/skirt and hideous shoes) than in BDUs (cammies) [meaning that they do more desk jobs than field work as opposed to their American or European counterparts].

That said, chicks in the Army of any country tended not to be as good a lookers. Navy and especially Air Force tended to have the better looking fillies...
