
Dam project spurs exodus

TOKYO - (KRT) - More than half the residents of a town that will be submerged by a dam project in Gunma Prefecture have abandoned the town altogether instead of agreeing to relocate to an alternate residential area.
The exodus is due to a serious delay in construction of the dam and residents' discontent over the prices of alternate land offered by the government.
While the government will prepare alternate residential land located on the lakeshore near the scheduled Yanba Dam in Naganoharamachi, more than half of the occupants of about 340 households have left the town. Only about 160 remain....the rest...
