This is most certainly true. There is just no movement up the ladder from the bottom. For women, there are few full-time jobs for OLs anymore. It is a matter of a six-month/one-year contract and then onto the next job.
The thing that amazes is that nobody seems to care in the slightest. A girl I know just had her 1-year contract expire. At renewal she was offered a 33% pay cut (there was no reasoning behind it - it was just take it or leave it). So she's going to start looking. I said I'd help. Send me your resume, I said, I'll pass it around. Nothing. It is like pulling teeth. She doesn't work at my office but another girl at my office is experiencing the same thing. Again, no resume. Of course, I'm not promising anything, but damn, I just don't sense any kind of urgency in the least. I'd be pissed if I were being run out the door for no reason. But I guess if you live with your parents a job is just sort of a token thing anyway.
