
Japanese fishing boat seized by Russians

SAPPORO — A 198-ton Japanese longline fishing boat with a 16-member crew on board has been seized by Russian border security authorities off the Kuril Islands in the Russian Far East, the Japan Coast Guard said Sunday.
No one was hurt during last Wednesday's seizure of the Marunaka Maru, owned by fishing company Osaka Gyogyo in Nemuro, Hokkaido, according to a report received by the coast guard via the Foreign Ministry. (Kyodo News)
