Japanese Education

Postby gmb » Wed Jan 19, 2005 4:35 pm

Maybe many countries educational systems are Fu*ked but in Japan some of the things they do is totally fu*ked up especially in the English department. First they teach the kids bad English by using Katakana. Like setto for set, pinku for pink and so forth. I have a hard time trying to reverse this bad habit. Then the education department wonders why Japanese kids can not speak well. Also to much emphasis on grammar. I think the whole reason of language is to be able to communicate. Some may even know grammar better than me but can not say a full sentence in English. Japanese Education Dept. What the Fu*k???

The only thing that is "Pressure-free" about Japanese schools is that students can sleep in class and muck around as much as they want, and are rarely reprimanded for it.

They should be encouraging students to get more sleep so that they actually have a functioning mind during school as well.

Kyodo: Ministry to review 'education with latitude' policy
The education ministry is considering an about-face from its three-year-old policy of "education with latitude," turning toward beefing up school curriculums in Japan, ministry officials said Tuesday. The move is aimed at bringing academic standards back to the world's top levels, the officials said. To enhance curriculums for Japanese, science and mathematics, the ministry is considering having classes be held on Saturdays, which were only recently made school holidays, as well as trimming summer and other vacation periods.

pressure

Postby Lifer » Wed Feb 16, 2005 4:00 pm

Perhaps one thing they mean by pressure free is that students don't actually have to do anything to pass. As long as they show up 2/3 of the time and don't break the rules, they can graduate from junior high. When I asked why the school was passing one totally brain dead Stdnt who hadn't done anything in 3 years and failed EVERY course, they looked at me like I was an idiot and said - "It's compulsory education, he has to pass." (This may only be private schools, but I think not.)

When students realize this, they just turn off. The stdnt I mentioned above was exactly such a case. When I asked him once whether he was worried about graduating, he laughed and said it was a done deal. He knew the system.
No matter how he tried he could not break free.
And the worms ate into his brain...

Great... just fucking brilliant. So because kids are crap and school is a joke lets just have more time to fuck off... what they fail to realize is that kids today don't give two shits.. those that do, do well.. those that don't pass on as stated above.

More class hours is not going to improve the standard of education in Japan... what will is a change in grading policies.. kicking out dumbass kids who fuck off and disturb other children, and no nonsense teaching. That means teaching to learn, not to memorize. But as memorization schemes are ingrained into the Japanese way of life (stereotype I know), it's the only way they know.

They are going to fuck these kids up so bad... I predict it. And who has to teach those fucking saturdays? Teachers who are already overworked and underpaid....

The move comes after recent international surveys indicated that academic skills and learning among Japanese students have been slipping over the past few years.

What surveys? Anyone read any of these fucking surveys...

Under the policy, affecting the compulsory education period of the first nine years of schooling, class hours have been cut and curriculums streamlined with the aim of giving more leeway to students' learning, instead of placing emphasis on rote memorization.

And I know firsthand that rote memorization is still in full swing and the current method has not even remotely given students "more leeway to learn"

What a load of shit. Basically, teachers just try to cram in more facts in the reduced hours... that's about as blunt as you can get.

The MOE did not change the way teachers teach. They did not change the way tests evaluate students. They did not implement a FAILURE system. Where kids who fail, repeat until they pass... At my school the failure rate is like 15%.. if you can't make 15% in a class you are a retard and belong in special schooling.

That brings me to another point, how can a teacher teach in a class where kids are going wacko. Hitting each other, throwing shit, stealing, cursing and yelling? It's like a fucking zoo.

They should implement better classroom management policies, give the teacher more room to discipline, IE throw the little fuckers out of the room and teach the rest of the kids.

Because of the "Right to Education" rigmarole, other kids are being denied that right, and classroom performance suffers.

And another thing, they let these fuckers play sports while they are failing. Sports are not part of education, they are a secondary bi-product... but I see the dumbfucks playing sports all the while their test scores are 0 or near 0. I say, these kids need mandatory study dententions after school for 2-3 hours. Make them do their homework, and when their grades are sufficient, (above 66.6% and that is low) then let them play sports.

Take away the sports and let teachers be teachers. Teachers are overburdened with all kids of crap.. club activities, home visits, PTA meetings, disciplinary committees, and spend far more time on that kind of crap than on preparing for class.. give teachers more time on education and less on the BS and the scores will improve.

Also hold teachers accountable for poor performing students providing there is a pattern and with a good 3rd party review. There are tons of sacks of shit cases of teachers in Japan.. get rid of the old dogs and bring on performance evaluations.

I could ramble on and on and on about this. It's a fucking joke...
