Asahi: Written vow
Reform-minded local governors and mayors say politicians should not only keep their promises - they should put them in writing. A new political group is promoting the use of campaign manifestoes so voters can hold elected officials accountable..."We want to change this nation by encouraging (candidates) to make political manifestoes for local elections, which - unlike abstract campaign pledges - can be used to verify how much is achieved after they're elected, and thus lead to real local autonomy," said Masayasu Kitagawa, former governor of Mie Prefecture...The LDP, however, has adopted a wait-and-see approach. "We do not see a clear distinction between manifestoes and traditional campaign pledges," said an official close to the party's election bureau. "Besides, it is hard to see any expansion (of policy proposals) in them."

I like that idea.

SPOKE vows can be spun. Written vows are a lot harder to spin.
I will not abide ignorant intolerance just for the sake of getting along.

Meh, this is written Japanese we're talking about, one of the world's most deliberately vague languages (at least in my opinion)...

The end product will be so full of sound and fury - but signifying nothing - as to be laughable.
It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming...
