Kippo: First grandchild for Japan's oldest Oriental white stork
Hyogo White Stork HomepageThe first grandchild was born to Japan's oldest Oriental white stork, 'Takefu,' a female bird which was captured 34 years ago, at the Hyogo Prefectural Homeland for the Oriental White Stork. The park is conducting artificial hatching and nurturing of Oriental white storks, a special protected species which is now extinct in Japan, to return them to the wild. Takefu's only daughter, 'Murasaki'(aged 10), produced five eggs by 'Chashiro'(also aged 10), of which one has hatched. The park has successfully hatched storklings for 17 consecutive years and is now caring for 114 birds.
