A humanoid robot has been attending a nursery school in California since March to play with children up to 2 years of age.

The experiment is hoped to help develop a robot that can "live in harmony with humans in the future".

Sony Intelligence Dynamics Laboratories' Qrio robot spends time each day with more than 10 toddlers at the nursery school located in San Diego ...

Nursery owner, Nanmo Wakarahen, stated that in 2 months, Qrio had lost only one child, which was apparently better than the 3 children lost on average every two months by each of Qrio's human counterparts.

As to how Qrio lost a child, Wakarahen revealed that "little Johnny had been asking Qrio some difficult questions before play lunch, such as 'what's big, red and eats rocks?' and all the other children were laughing at Qrio, who didn't seem to be handling the situation very well. In fact there appeared to be steam coming out of his neck gasket but Sony assured us that was normal. Anyway, during play lunch, Qrio offered to discuss the matter further with little Johnny, behind the wash sheds, but no one has seen little Johnny since then. It's probably just another game of Johnny's or something," he concluded.

Anyone finding infants wandering around in San Diego are urged to take them as soon as possible to the Wakarahen Child Garden.
