Rice stumbles on Kim sanity
Advertiser Adelaide, Australia - 13 June
US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice today said she did not know whether North Korean leader Kim Jong-il was sane, a remark that could anger the unpredictable ruler.
Asked if she thought Mr Kim was sane during an interview, she replied: "I don't know. I've never met the man."...more...

Mr Kim is known as "Dear Leader" by North Korea's propaganda machine, which has said he shot 11 holes-in-one on the first golf round he ever played and has such a good memory he can remember the name, age and birthday of everyone he meets.

11 holes-in-one huh? Perhaps it was mini-golf.

If he can remember the birthday, then why does he need to remember the age?

Probably for the same reason you have to write your birthdate and age on so many forms in Japan.

(Heh, no I don't know the reason either.)

Nah, the Koreans will just say the Japanese forced it on them during their brutal occupation.

May have something to do with the fact Koreans often count their age from time of conseption.

Actually I don't think it is because of counting from conception... It comes from not having a number "0".

When you were born you were "1" because that is the smallest number there was. There's no kanji for zero just as there is no roman numeral for zero.

Yeah, but the Gooks still use that ridiculous Chinese age system. I've had students who didn't even know how to calculate their age under the Gregorian calendar. They used to piss me off when they talked about "Korean age" and "American age." I used to correct them and say no it's "Chinese age" and "the rest of the world's age." Then I'd point out that it's the 21st century.

That would make them 1 Year older than us, i.e. starting at 1 on the day of birth. When korens usualy guve a number with is 1 year less than us.

Not having zero must be really difficult. I mean, all the culteres/countries in the developed/developing world now have zero. Why can't they introduce the concept of zero into their system?

The concept of zero exists everywhere now, as far as I know. It just didn't exist historically (as a specific number) in most cultures.

Even with your idea of counting from conception that would make no sense.

[quote="Asia-Pacific Connections]Note that, in Korea, age is counted age differently from everywhere else. When a baby is born, Koreans count him as one year old immediately. In addition, Koreans count themselves one year older every January 1. So, according to Koreans, a baby born in December, 2003 is already two years old in January, 2004. The result of this is that everyone is really between one and two years younger than their "Korean age."

I didn't know folks still used the term gooks, I hoped it had died off along with all those rightwingers in the Tomball rally, 'Nigger'-bashers and KKK idiots like Edgar Ray Killen

Maybe you'd also want to inform the Western world and an idiot like Cheney that Stemcells can cure folks, gays need equal rights, and the abortion smoke screen was great for the re-election

Most people I grew up with talk like that. Hell, all we did was sit around and throw racial/ethnic/religious insults at each other. Still do when we get together. Sorry if it offends PC fags like yourself. BTW, does it bother you when people on here use Jap?

old dick worked out with Southern Partisans and CCC, the Coo Clucks Clan or the uptown Ku Klux Klan. He wanted Nelson Mandela back in jail, send Africa back to the dark ages, there's a whole lot more to this creep than just a Haliburton.

Mr Kobayashi: First, I experienced a sort of overpowering feeling whenever I was in the room with foreigners, not to mention a powerful body odor coming from them. I don't know whether it was a sweat from the heat or a cold sweat, but I remember I was sweating whenever they were around.
