MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan - Air Force investigators announced Thursday they are seeking information about the death of a local Japanese woman whose body was found July 21 in the trunk of a burning car in Hachinohe city. The victim, Naomi Kimura, 33, owned a downtown Misawa bar frequented by foreigners...According to local news reports, Kimura last was seen around 2:30 a.m. July 20, when she reportedly left her bar with a female bar employee and a man who appeared to be an American male in his 20s. Police have not disclosed the name of the bar. No arrests have been made.

The dead woman used to be married to a serviceman and was living in forces accomodation with her 3 year-old according to some reports.

The big story here is the painter who killed the mother and daughter in the next town. I'm not sure why, I thought the media would be all over this one. Especially when you consider the gaijin factor. She was married opened a bar, and then had just divorced her husband a month before she was killed. Plus many of the customers were US servicemen. So why the media haven't pounced is beyond me.
Its weird I've lived in Hachinohe now for more than 13 years and in that time there have been two murders, then in the course of a week, three people are killed. This place is becoming crime central.

Some of the early reports appear to be leaning that way too, suggesting that some of his answers to questions were "ambiguous" which can only have come from police sources. The divorce was quite recent, I believe. Innocent until proven guilty is still a good rule, though.

It is interesting to note that the USF were on the ball on this one. It is normal in a case like this for the JNP to contact USFs for assistance in identifying any USF personnel or suspected witnesses if they have no leads themselves. But since it is normal (and very stupid) USFJ policy to not publically announce their assistance or actual role in resolving an incident (whether or not it involves a military member), they are at the mercy of the J-media and what the JNP tell the media.

At least they got a head start on this whether or not, it turns out bad publicity-wise for them.

It's already turned out bad for the bar girl. Being locked in the trunk of a burning car, left on a railroad track (dead on top of it), is not a fun way to start a weekend!

i'm not sure if the statistics would up hold late reporting, but I will make a educated guess that you are not correct on this occurring in rape cases.

Japanese police departments receive identification among their peers for resolving major cases. This is a formal presentation and are collective for a period of one year and rankings are posted in order by PS. These "attaboys" will lead to high performance reports for personnel records, promotion lists and choice of key assignments at transfer time. These are presented based on seriousness of charge, technical expertise required in the investigation, etc.

Therefore, it does not hurt the police department to get press coverage on a local case, the more coverage the better. As a result there is a hell of a lot of press leaks, especially from the PDs in the inaka where they feel it is necessary to get their name in front of the higher-ups in faroff headquarters. The more serious (bigger) the case, the more they like leaks. As you well know, add the term "gaijin", or US Forces Japan and you have a natural press attention getter!

Having said this, I would mention that chauvanistic J-police have always been suspect of rape cases given the easy availability of J-beaver whether purchased or obtained gratis (ahh, love that J-beaver).

Also, I mentioned in a post many moons ago, about an old trick of barhookers and streetwalkers of offering free beaver and then later screaming rape in the hope of a private settlement. If you are not aware, a private settlement will erase any charge, or crime in Japan. This and the easy availability of sex situation in Japan, tend to make the J-police slow to announce a case as rape until they are sure there is no private settlement sought, or it is just not a case of price arbitration that got out of hand!

But, I would tend to point out that other cases involving USF or gaijins in general are usually leaked to the media quickly or will come when the media spot the FG in custody and force a press release. Then it is business as usual for Blinky and his FG crime wave perponents.

You can guess what the lead story on all the 6:20 news programs was, can't you. What I can't understand is, if you were going to kill your snack momma ex-wife, and burn her body in her car, and not want to get caught, why in god's name would you burn the car on the train tracks. Hello trains run frequently on the tracks. There are so many nice wooded areas where you could have taken the car and burned it without anyone finding it for years. That leads me to believe perhaps young Mr. McAllister might not be guilty. It's a great way to frame him, his ex-wife problems yada yada. Mind you the other count of using a stolen credit card to purchase a navigation system for his car doesn't help his cause. Maybe he was buying th navigation so he could find a nice secluded place for his next victim.

ANYONE who has served at Misawa knows about Miss Veedol beach. There are tons of places to ditch a body out there. Ditch the body, then park the car someplace. Maybe the person she was quarreling with was the reason they got divorced perhaps?

A former U.S. airman who was arrested three weeks ago for allegedly damaging and dumping the body of his divorced Japanese wife in Hachinohe, Aomori Prefecture, was served with a fresh arrest warrant Friday on suspicion of strangling her last July. William Scott Omari McAllister, 25, was indicted the same day on charges of transporting the body of his ex-wife, Naomi Kimura, 33, in a car and setting fire to her body before abandoning it in the trunk. Local police, meanwhile, did not file charges against his 29-year-old girlfriend, who had earlier been arrested on suspicion of providing the police with a false alibi for the suspect, and released her. McAllister, who is currently facing trial on a separate case of fraud, was arrested March 2 but has denied any involvement in the murder or abandonment of his ex-wife, who was running a bar in Misawa. The former U.S. serviceman, who worked at the U.S. Air Force's Misawa base in Aomori until December 2005, is alleged to have strangled her around July 20 last year. Investigators had been provided with information that the victim had a quarrel with a "foreign" man at her home in the early hours of July 20. McAllister was earlier arrested last August on suspicion of using another person's credit card to purchase a car navigation system.

Just talked to a friend of mine in Misawa...

1) It was a Toyota Celica, it has no trunk.
2) The mamma-san had called the police a couple of times on her ex-husband because he was beating her.
3) The neighbors said they heard arguing and then saw the car pull out.
4) The credit card he stole from some old lady and tried to use it at Jim's.
5) He was able to use the credit card, it was a review of the in-store video tapes that showed him using it. After the oba-san noticed the charge.
6) His girlfriend (Ai) went out and picked up the guy in Hachinohe after he left the car on the tracks.

Okay - well then let me assure you that the trunk was not glass. I have it on good authority that Toyota stopped appending glass trunks to their cars once they finally correlated the number of back end collisions to the number of neckless victims they were reimbursing for the loss of their necks. That bubble popped in 1994.

There was enough to conclude the ex-husband was an imbecile by the very first reports that he left the body in a car on the railway tracks. Everything else is just superfluous. Superfluous evidence can be fun to pick over but when it's just plain bullshit it grates a nerve.
