As the U.S. election nears there is nothing short of Obamamania underway in one small Japanese town named after the presidential candidate

Obama Japan is not named after Obama the political car salesman, It only shares the same name.

Has something like that ever mattered around here? An accidental similarity is something to celebrate--assuming it's a positive one, of course.

Oh boy. Another one of those "sounds like" games.

My favorite was the one where some nutter (quite seriously) postulated that the mother of Jesus Christ was actually a Japanese woman named "Abe Maria."

i went to Obama, Japan earlier this year because my friend teaches in a nearby village in Fukui Prefecture. I got the giggles just walking down the main street as they have all these banners with Obama's picture on them saying "Obama loves Obama". They also have an awesome gift shop that sells Obama crap - my fav were the chopsticks with his face on them.
Can't wait to see what they do there if he wins

Or if he doesn't. Now, that would be interesting to see.

Forget Obama, Japan, I shudder to think what would happen in certain places in America if Obama lost now. I'm honestly praying that we have no Truman-Dewey like surprises.

Because I think it's obvious.

But if you insist, at this moment, with Obama leading in the polls by a reported 8 points, every batshit crazy liberal is jacking off to the possibility of controlling the executive branch while at the same time having a super-majority in Congress. Now I'm sure you remember the reaction of those batshit crazy liberals when Gore lost in 2000 and Kerry lost in 2004 even though everyone was predicting a close election. Well if Obama loses now... Get my point?

And just to round things out, let me add that, given what we've seen to this point and barring any major event between now and Tuesday, I'd be at least a little skeptical of a McCain victory as well. But, as I've made evidently clear in the past, to me Obama and McCain are just different sides of the same grow the government coin.

Oh yes, and we all know that every single person who supports Obama just has to be a "batshit crazy liberal". x 1000

lets see:
"every bat shit crazy liberal is hoping obama will win" =/= "every obama supporter is a bat shit crazy liberal."

see?

That's a good point, but I also have a problem with this because of the assumption in the language that every liberal is bat shit crazy. It would be better to say that every person who would riot if Obama loses is bat shit crazy. It properly takes the "liberal" aspect completely out of the equation, because what makes the person crazy is their bad acts, not their ideology.

What's the deal with the Hawaii theme? Is this just Random Japan behavior, or is this a hat tip to the state where Obama was born?

Barack Obama victory: Namesake Japanese fishing village celebrates US election result
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/uselection2008/barackobama/3383667/Barack-Obama-victory-Namesake-Japanese-fishing-village-celebrates-US-election-result.html
Today, the sleepy fishing town of Obama in Japan was celebrating a very different kind of recognition: sharing a name with the first black president of the United States of America.

More than 11,000 miles from Washington, election mania reached fever pitch in the unlikely setting of Obama, a rural port town in the remote Fukui region of central Japan.

As the election results trickled in, the community celebrated with hula dancing, singing, clapping and chanting "we love Obama" at a series of parties in the town's seafront museum.

An eclectic selection of Obama-themed goods - all emblazoned with the face of the town's namesake - were on sale at the parties, ranging from chopsticks and head bands to sake and steamed 'manju' cakes as well as mackerel and sea bream Obama fish burgers.

Dressed from head to toe in I Love Obama paraphernalia, Yasunori Maeno, secretary of the Obama for Obama campaign group, said: "This all started as a bit of a joke. But as more and more people got involved, it became more serious...

While Republican supporters were understandably keeping a low profile today in Obama, the region is not without its links to Mr Obama's rivals.

The region is home to the factory that makes Sarah Palin's popular rimless glasses, which has seen sales soar since her rise to prominence in the campaign...

C'mon GuyJean. Everybody knows he was born in Kenya, is actually an Indonesian citizen, and is the founder of the Islamic Socialist Movement, currently co-headed by Bill Ayers and Jeremiah Wright.

The new one that has them trembling in their boots is Obama's 'Civilian Security Force' taken from this 20 second, out of context, sound-bite. Be afraid! Like a good little American. :p
