Guess I saw a dead guy last night

Postby Samurai_Jerk » Tue Nov 03, 2009 8:28 pm

I just found this article in Japanese that confirmed what I thought. I was going into an izakaya with my girlfriend and her family last night and there was a guy out front who had just been run over by a taxi. His legs were still sticking out from under the taxi and based on the unnatural angle his feet were pointing I could tell he was fucked. We figured he probably died and this article says he did. According to witnesses the guy was sitting in the road and suddenly lay down in front of the taxi as it was driving by. Sounds like he was probably drunk. The driver's been arrested and you know he's fucked in Japan regardless of the reason the accident happened.

Wow, I don't know about you, but I would be pretty twisted after seeing something like that.
I am not really sure where I am going, I just hope that when I get there, I can sit down because I am sure my feet will be tired.

Hope you're OK, SJ. That could be pretty heavy.
Fuck! I was drinking not far from there last night, too...just about to head out that way again now.

From what I've heard from the few friends who've been in accidents, do the J cops basically just assign most of the blame to whichever vehicle is larger? almost regardless of whatever boneheaded illegal shit the smaller vehicle (or pedestrian or bicyclist) was doing to actually cause the accident in the first place?

And even if you're not at fault at all, you might still get to pay 30% of 50% of the damages, as Japan seems more obsessed with seeming "fair" than actually being fair and putting 100% of the blame on the asshat who actually is responsible?

Or how "atariya" is actually a way to make a living here. Taking advantage of "car vs. pedestrian = car's fault" legal system here.

This is why I really, really don't want to drive here.
Some kids jumps in front of my car and gets himself hit, and I get to go to jail, especially being an FG, right?

I had already been drinking for about five hours by that time so it wasn't too traumatic. My girlfriend and her sister-in-law were a lot more freaked out so her brother and I just rushed into the izakaya and told them not to look.

In a nutshell to sum everything up, yes!

This is why When I drive(got a kid and all)I am overly careful, why? Because people just do what they want, drive how they want, parents don't keep tab on the kids, people constantly ride their bikes all over the place. So your eyes need to be everywhere at all times.

Me I just drive carefull because cleaning dryed blood from the bodywork is a Pita... Whatever country i'm in... My specialty is chassis scrapping... even with a stock-standard car whenever the road/track surface get uneven it's scoopy-scrappy party. Last shiaken I got a separated bill for undercarriage repaint. From what I saw before the visit... it's was more than needed... (still a wee bit nervous to know that my brake line are quite exposed without even a gravelshield...)

But I must admit that I aim for monkeys if available... I really can't stand them...

Well, it could also be a good reason to rush into the izakaya and order another jolt of the good stuff....

No, no, no, that's wrong. The most important task of the Japanese police officer in the wake of a traffic accident is to measure the distance to the curb, for god's sake.
Look at every news clip of any accident and they are always measuring the distance to the curb. It's easily their most important priority.

Oh, I thought it was to take 1000's of photos of everything, and then not actually do any analysis of them to show whose friggin fault it was anyway.

Sometimes I swear 60% of the J police force is photographers and assitants who put those little cardboard markers next to every little item on the scene.

One time I saw a photographer shooting a right-wing protest. He had a special step ladder to get a nice view. First, I asked him what the demo was about (something to do with China) and then I asked him what news org he was with. He said, "I am the police!" and then turned so I could see the writing on his other arm.

I have a question. How many of you have seen a dead body that wasn't in a casket already?

Sure. Live long enough and you're bound to see at least one corpse pre-packaging.

Saw 2 kids get blown away by shotgun blasts to the head at a rave many years ago in San Diego. Pretty traumatizing, even to this day.

Also saw a jumper as his lifeless body was wheeled away from the tracks.
Spare a drink?
