Thursday,march 8th, 2013,1.00 a.m.,
15-year-old foreign brat arrested on suspicion of setting fire to a shed at a 90-year-old Japanese man's residence in Zama City.
There were no injuries but the shed was destroyed.
Thursday morning, another fire started in a shrine, burned down a building and a house next door and damaged another house.
Brat admitted to setting the fire during police questioning.

First,I think it was good that no one was death.
At the same time I feel anger towards suspected American brat.
Historic olden Shrine with in a zama city called Kurihara shrine, was built in 1573.
There are the Quercus myrsinaefolia tree of symbols about 500 years old inside the sanctuary.
It was designated as a natural monument by city.
Imagine, this Shrine have a longer history than the your country...
For long long time, for community peoples, the Shrine offered their emotional support.
Now, community peoples will feels that might lost part of their soul.
sad.

Surprisingly, foreign news networks ignored this serious crime.
Why foreign,American media want to intentionally conceal information about crime by GAIJIN?
Imagine that if Japanese brat set fire to a old precious church at America,we knows what happen.
shame.

This is important news that All of GAIJIN living in Japan should know.

Hi Univerman,

I can understand your anger, and I sympathize. If you're going to complain about the media, however, please note that the Japanese media do the same sort of thing in reverse: exaggerating crimes by foreigners (which, as a percentage of population are actually much lower than crimes by Japanese) while downplaying or ignoring crimes against foreigners in japan.

This is nothing new, and I think you'll find it's pretty much the same anywhere.
Besides, this news is very recent and probably hasn't been picked up by the foreign media yet.

By the way, the three links at the bottom of your post don't seem to work properly.

univerman666, I agree completely with you that the destruction of this shrine is a severe loss. And yes, this boy should be held responsible for it.

As an aside, the shrine is not older than my country: if you happen to visit the Netherlands (the country I was born), you will undoubtedly see numerous houses at least as old as this shrine. But it seems you are somewhat focused on Americans. Suffice it to say that there is at least one American on this forum whose ancestral roots go back very far indeed. I hope you are aware of the history of native Americans (you know the ones with a red skin).

shame.

It does sometimes happen that foreign news networks ignore some news in Japan. I remember the tragedy in Akashi-city where many people were trampled to dead by a mass of people due to bad planning of local authorities. This news was totally missed by all foreign news networks. The reason is probably that they were unaware of it. I assume that you agree with me that there was nothing intentional in ignoring this news. Now, why do you think the non-reporting of the fire in the shrine is intentional then?

It appears you have an agenda driven by disgust of everything American. Ahh, I am so glad that I am Dutch... But then again, such a mind set is neither likely to give you peace of mind, nor conductive to a mutual understanding between Japanese and non-Japanese living in Japan. I assume that this (mutual understanding) is the prime purpose of your post to this forum?

Finally, I hope you are aware that some people on this forum take offense of your use of the word GAIJIN. At the very least you could call us by our honorific name of "Fucked Gaijin".

Sincerely,

Russell

If it is indeed Take I think that'd be reason enough to celebrate.

Although if it is him, not posting to FG for so long seems to have caused a noticeable decline in his English ability.

Ok for those of us not quite up to speed on the language...

What nationality was the kid?

Why are we calling him a brat? Did he taunt the resisting officers and resist? Did he act an ass in interviews? Or is he just a kid and this is the contempt of the old for the young?

When they say he admitted to setting the fires, did he sign a confession or what happened there?

Just wondering :)

I don't think you'll find any gaijin here that side with the boy or any news agency covering up the incident. The lil shit You'll probably even find those among us that think he deserves to be doused in gasoline and set on fire.(and yet there are there are those that would high five him for burning down churches in the US)

BUT...just like statements that begin with "we Japanese," one idiot kid doesn't represent the respect/attitude of an entire country. Just like the Ainu, Ryukuan, etc. there is a much longer history in the US, even if you are completely ignorant of it.

Ya'know...if this happened to a Jewish synagogue or an Islamic mosque in the US, the little bastid would be facing hate crime charges for being a Nazi ,White Supremacist, racist, etc. and the media would be off & running. This was a criminal act, regardless of the motive, and should be prosecuted as such. I have no sympathy for this kid or his dysfunctional family.

That's quite impressive... Norman nobility or something? I can trace back to the late 16th century, but my forebears were mainly peasants. I do however very probably share a common set of genes with the late and great Charles Babbage.
