He is not saying anything because he knows how the system works and it gives him hope. If he confesses, his hope will be gone. That is his tactics. The "sweet boy" (his mom`s words about him) is far to be in the dark.
I think I gotta agree with you on this. I firmly believe he had advice from the family lawyers before he was even caught. That would include not to make any statements and to hold out for transport to a friendlier enviornment. The jurisdiction responsible for the investigation would be the most hostile toward him, so it would obviously be of benefit to get moved out of their immediate reach!
