Vodaphone growing

Postby inthebubble » Wed Mar 15, 2006 12:28 pm

Without getting into the economics of the whole thing, it seems as though there is a huge push here in Okinawa for the market. They have opened kiosks on all the military bases (something only prepaid phones accomplished in the past) and in the last two weeks three new huge Vodaphone shops are being opened just on my ten minute drive to work. The buidlings being redone look like a cookie cutter was used to make them from an AU shop just different colors.
Maybe they will offer one fee unlimited usage, that might make me change providers!!

[floatl]Image[/floatl]Vodafone unveils new logo for Softbank switchover
Wednesday, August 16, 2006 at 12:36 EDT, Crisscross.com
TOKYO --
Vodafone KK on Tuesday unveiled its new logo, which will go into effect on Oct 1, when the company name will be switched to Softbank Mobile. The new logo is based on the Softbank Group logo, which is derived from the naval flag of "Kaientai" adopted by Meiji era samurai Ryoma Sakamoto founded. The color silver reflects the company's policy to "go back to the basics  ...more....

When we were in Japan we got a Vodafone because it was the cheapest for the short time we were staying there but it was as useless as not having a phone. We could hardly reach each other. It was a lousy product vs. others I have used in Tokyo.

I am very interested in why Pret a Manger failed in Japan. Do you have any resources on this one?

Thought you were going on in another thread about having tons of money yada yada yada. WTF are you doing skimping on a phone?

Or maybe you're still living in your mother's basement as previously suggested.

 Very true.

Not related to the name or logo, but I think I am going to switch to AU. The shitty Vodafone 3G receiption at my summer getaway place is driving me nuts.

Thus, the lack of cell phone reception.. ;)

Or maybe his wife was 'indisposed' at one of those shifty B1 'establishments' when he tried calling. ;)

Actually, FOMA has been very good about expanding coverage and I have had very little complaint about their service. The only shitty thing about it is the price. I would switch to Wilcom because of their nice Wilcom-Wilcom fees which are free, but since no one that I know of is using it, for the time being I am still stuck with Docomo.

Yeah, the FOMA reception on the island is not bad, it works in a lot of places that Vodafone doesn't.

The problem is that I despise NTT. Motherfuckers ripped me off for about 200,000yen due to equipment problems several years ago so I avoid using NTT products if at all possible. Often there is little choice but with mobiles there is, and those fuckers aren't getting any more of my money. (/rant off)

Sadly, the majority of J. people use Docomo just for the silly Emoji characters for the email. I, for one, am too..

As far as I know all three major providers have those. Vodafone definitely does. Vodafone and Docomo are cross-compatible with them to an extent as well.

yeah, I was using that on my AU/Kddi phone in 03.

I wish theyd introduce it in Ireland... iMode has been out here for months now - but even the people who have signed up to it rarely use the email functionality (O2 is only one who offers email-push service, cept for maybe vodafone - but you have to have a blackberry and pay a stupid amount of money a month for the privilage)
