There had been scientific studies on what factors determine the sex of the child. It had something to do with the acidity of the semen (I'm not making this up). I forgot which side of the pH is what but maybe someone can help me out. On the side-note, there is a tale that the more testostrone the guy has during the time of conception, the more likely that the child be a boy. Again, this probably has to do with the pH level again. Which means, if you hope to bring a boy into this world, then you better watch K-1 or Pride with all of your buddies before you get down and dirty with your woman.
