Boy who severed mom's head says he wanted to prove he could kill in war

FUKUSHIMA -- A high school boy under arrest for murdering his mother and severing her head said he did it to prove that he could kill in war, police said.

"I can kill people if a war breaks out," the third-year high school student was quoted as saying. "But there is no war so I decided to kill a person now."

Police sent the boy to prosecutors on Wednesday, accusing him of murder.

Investigators said that the mother's headless body was found on a futon in an apartment where the boy lived with his younger brother. (Mainichi)

A 17-year-old boy who brought his mother's severed head to a police station here told police he had initially planned to kill his younger brother, sources said. The student said he instead killed his 47-year-old mother because his brother was too strong, the sources said. The student also said he had secured a weapon to kill his brother, who was living together in the same apartment, the sources said. "I wanted to create a sensation in the media," the student was quoted as saying on why he brought the head of his mother to the Aizu-Wakamatsu police station on May 15.
