When's the last time a Japanese died for religion?

Odd news from Japan and all things Japanese around the world.

I had no idea the number was so high (one million).
His [Brendan Behan's] last words were to several nuns standing over his bed, "God bless you, may your sons all be bishops."

I think the actual number was probably in the tens or maybe even in the hundreds of thousands. According to this somewhat dodgy site - http://www.keikyo.com/keikyo/martyrs.html - they claim "nearly one million".

The same site also uses the term "Holocaust" which will no doubt incur the wrath of the Wiesenthal Center who zealously attack anyone who dares to affix the Holocaust label on anything other than their Holocaust. As Abba Eban once said "There is no business like Shoah business ..."
