I do appreciate the support from you guys, but he seems to have mellowed with the diatribes lately, so I vote for trying to achieve a civilized detente.

People are entitled to their opinion, but if they want to wave their offensive opinions around in my face in a public forum for no real reason (apropos of nothing), then I take objection. The same way you might take objection to some guy waving his dick around in your face while you and your family are trying to enjoy the public beach. It’s just not cool and deserves a smackdown.


I also become frustrated when otherwise intelligent people espouse bigotry and perpetuate fabrications of the truth. Re anti-australianism, this phenomenon wasn’t even on my radar when I was back in Australia, because I guess no-one in their right mind would come out in person among a group of Aussie lads and say “Hey, aren’t you people all a bunch of criminal louts?”. But here in Japan though, as a minority, it can and does happen.

In addition, with the advent of the internet, people can pretty much just state their honest opinions without fear of any reprisals. So, fortunately or unfortunately, depending on how you view it, we are hearing a lot more ‘honest’ opinions from people about all kinds of issues (sometimes it’s hard to distinguish honest opinion from trolling). The last decade has been a real eye-opener for me – I suspect it has been for a lot of other people too such a Mexicans and Blacks. There’s a lot more hatred and prejudice out there in the world than I ever expected.

And for goodness sake, for the record, the vast majority of Australians (maybe 95 percent) are not descended from criminals shipped over there, or otherwise forced to go (slavery, indentured servitude, [s]asylum, escaping persecution[/s]), but went there by their own free will, as free settlers.

And I will say one thing in favor of Charles - at least he's never tried to keep his identity a great secret, like by hiding behind a fake username as some others would. So he gets some points for having balls.

Strangely enough - some of them returned to England after they served their time (vis-a-vis Great Expectations)! Well, I guess if they were stupid enough to get caught in the first place ....

Izu has some of the best known dive spots for hammer heads. The high season starts about now until the end of the summer where you can see hundreds of hammers swimming. Definitely a spectacular sight, if I ever had the balls to do it.
