Damn Bear, you really think he'll be off air?
When you start considering the possibilities for appearances to apologize to public and fans, the group interviews to discuss why and how it happen and in-depth interviews to explain his philosophy on personal needs to get drunk and get nude, he may have even more time on the tube!

True.. but u know how the Japanese media are.. they get massive attention, paper - tv - radio - online, then the production company pulls them outta the spotlight for X amount of time - as punishment - then noone can mention the rule breakers name on print or tv - then comes the formal apology, and then it's like nothing ever happened.

Though, for being the serious guy in the foursome, makes u wonder what pushed him over the edge, if it was just alcohol. lol.

Dammit not bu-sma!!!! Grrrrr.

Anyway the reaction is so OTT. But it will all blow over soon enough - hardly anyone remembers the Goro drama anymore.

I am sure Kusanagi was given the breathalyser/blood test when he was admitted to the police station and all they found was alcohol. This does not give the police the reason to search Kusanagi's apartment. I guess this TIJ where there is no reverence for any civil rights.

Kusanagi will return to TV when all of this media attention will fade away. Didn't Shimada Shinsuke get in trouble a while ago but returned to TV after he apologized with crocodile tears?

I can understand why it's "news" since the public is interested and it's all about ratings. What I can't understand is the level of disgust the talking heads, fans, and politicians are (pretending?) to show over something fairly minor.

He supposedly drank 10 glasses of beer/shochu! It's outrageous!!!!

I think I'll save the outrage for the dodgy trio in Osaka who appear to have killed a little girl (one of the dodgy crew is her own mother).

Shit, that's breakfast for guys like me and Greji.

And since I forgot to comment on it earlier, getting drunk and naked in public seems to pretty standard behavious for guys in Japan.

This all kinda makes me wonder if something else happened. Something that may have make some official or government agency look bad in front of the J-public and this was all scripted (like J-game shows) as cover for what ever the original event was.

There are reports of a flood of calls to the police from fans angry that he was arrested at all. I think just about everything in the press has to be taken with a pinch of salt right now because there is probably an unheard of amount of spin doctoring on all sides. Some want to exaggerate the event to bring down Johnny's, feel superior, punish someone who has let them down etc while others don't want to kill a goose laying golden eggs or are responding to the excessive moral outrage.

It sounds like a misdemeanour but SMAP are almost unofficial royalty so their behaviour is judged by a different standard. Beat Takeshi was once asked how he could always bounce back from his scandals and he said:
After the Friday incident, the reason I was able to return was, well, I just seem like that type of guy, I guess. It just seems like from person to person, some people can be forgiven and some can't. After a celebrity is involved in a scandal of fraud or violence, some of them are just wiped off the face of the earth, and some of them are just the kind of people about whom you'd say "well, you can't help that" and just let them back in. Ok, it's not that easy, but they still get back in. I guess I was just born to be a guy who seems like he can make a comeback.

In 1986, Friday magazine took photographs of Takeshi Kitano's mistress, so he visited their offices with his 'entourage' and beat up the editor and his staff.

He has such a clean image," one woman told commercial broadcaster TBS. "He doesn't seem like that kind of person."
This begs the question, what kind of per is "THAT"? Someone who gets drunk? I think there are more than a few Japanese that can't hold their booze.

But Thursday's incident risks damaging the commercial juggernaut of SMAP, whose members, especially heart throb Takuya Kimura, are popular with advertisers.
Corporations including Toyota Motor Corp said they were pulling commercials starring Kusanagi.
Looks like an opportunity for Nissan, Mazda or Subaru! New campaign: Drive Naked! Woo Hoo!

Even Communications Minister Kunio Hatoyama expressed anger, because the actor was the face of a government campaign to get the public to switch to digital television.

THis may explain some of the government's response to the incident. Perhaps they have sizable amount of money sunk into the DTV switch campaign.

From here

Maybe he can claim he was rehearsing a new skit for his TV show.

Now I'm really stunned!

This actually made the the Melbourne "The Age" news!
Knock me down with a feather!

http://media.theage.com.au/japan-star-sorry-for-nude-park-binge-490380.html

"Japan star sorry for nude park binge
One of Japan's biggest pop stars publicly apologizes after he was arrested naked and drunk in a Tokyo park"

I'm in such a state of shock that I won't even comment on the "one of Japan's biggest pop stars" bit.

I need to lie down ...

I think that picture would be harder to get than Monika Lewisnsky on her knees in front of Bill Clinton, Dimwit. It seems Johnny's jimisho is extremely powerful, and will stop at nothing to control their image. That said, Katori was trying his darnedest to make himself cry, but was not able to. He was probably laughing to hard inside to really make himself teary eyed.

Yeah there was something quite odd about his "performance." It didn't quite convey a sincere sense of remorse which is not that surprising I guess.

That would be newsworthy in and of itself. It would represent a real break from convention that Japanese corporations and ad agencies are not renown for...I agree it would be pretty impressive, albeit unlikely.

Talk about a major fuck up by Hatoyama. Aparently Chidejika was just arrested in an undisclosed Tokyo park, drunk off his ass and naked from the waist down.
