"All the good-looking guys in NY are gay"

Odd news from Japan and all things Japanese around the world.

In terms of looks, the competition 'seems' brutal if you just look around at other guys on the streets/clubs/etc., but so many of those guys with the perfect clothes, teeth, hair, etc. in NYC are indeed gay or bi. Most of the straight guys in NYC don't fit the ideal these women have cultivated from their years of watching "Sex and the City."

A lot of Japanese women who go to NYC go with dreams of that TV show in their heads, and are generally disappointed. The bottom line is that there are a lot more straight hot women in NYC than straight good looking/good job having guys, so women there often try to put blinders on and go after the muscle bound, well dressed, model looking guys who are often, yep, not into women. The job thing is important, too. Many women won't mention it in NYC, but if you don't have a decent job (read: no name tag, no manual labor) no matter what you look like they don't even consider you a real option. Money is always part of the equation in NYC, even for fresh off the boat Japanese women with cash and credit cards of their own.

It's always interesting talking to Japanese people who have lived in NYC. Many JP women come to NYC looking for career freedom, gender equality and of course love, trying to shake off the oppression of male-dominated Japan, but they often come back to Japan after realizing that life in NYC is really tough and the city usually only yields its riches to those who are equally tough. So they often come back after realizing that for all the minuses associated with being a woman in Japan, it's still a great place to live in terms of overall quality of life.

BTW, I could actually say some of the same things "in reverse" regarding a lot of gaijin that come to Japan...

Actually, most Japanese women that go to the states, usually go to LA because one of the proximity distance and also because LA has the largest Japanese community in the US. NY is more difficult to make it for many Japanese, even if you're American it's not that easy. Because LA is slower paced, not as hectic and the living conditions are easier for Japanese women to adapt to, LA is the perfect spot. When I was a student at UCLA we had so many Japanese women attending there. Many of them had American boyfriends.
While I do agree with you on some of your points, NY can be brutal(having lived there myself) it is a totally different scenario on the West Coast.

Still, I reckon even I, with no standards of taste whatsoever, would still need to close my eyes and think of Mother England.
I guess if she's confident enough of herself to make comments like the one she did despite looking like a Japanese version of Susan Boyle without the fuzzy eyebrows, she must give great head.

Plus, a bit Michael Jackson-ish, that nose of hers.

Nope, just prices.

I have to agree, there are 20 million people in nyc, and about 19, 800,000 of them are ass ugly. It tends to happen when you have never left a 10 square block in your life and are inbred as fuck. Washington Heights, need I say more?
