It'll be interesting to see if these people will really be treated the same as Japanese employees in the long run. Will they get the same benefits as a Japanese seishain (permanent employee) and move up the corporate ladder at the same rate?

One would hope not. They're not going to get the same benefits from society, so in turn, they should be getting better pay and longer vacations (presumably for the long travels home to visit their family).

Japan is fucking miles away from equality. I know it's un-PC, but fuck it, if gaijin are going to be so alienated socially, they might as well get the benefit of the doubt when it comes to employment.

one positive move Japan finally accomplished (decades late though...) is abolishing the "alien card" and dishing out residency cards... ya... Japanese are not the only humans on this rock...

I do doubt that the FG workers will get the same treatment as a national. Promotions, time on clock vs. work done (compared to the Japanese workers who have massive hours on the clock... but you have to think what the hell they did for 12 hours that day... seriously, it aint no sweat shop so what the hell are they doing?), etc.

i talk about it, some go home in fear, others boast that their wife is all good, others are at home and smile as their wife is at work and they are fixing up their bunker or building a house with her money, and the rest are out with their side lemur.

I remember this shit from the J-students at my US university...though doing this with the US university system can extend your graduation date. 5 years later and the ones that didn't do this and got jobs in the US after graduation are much happier and living much less stressful life...

Re: Japanese Company Personnel Policies Going Global

Japanese firm with 6,000 workers switches to English as business language. Gives employees two years to learn. Most hate it, but do their best. Further proof of English as future global language? Or of Japanese desperation?...

Japan Inc. tests a survival strategy: English
The Washington Post | August 7, 2012 -- TOKYO---Japanese billionaire Hiroshi Mikitani decided two years ago that the employees at his company, Rakuten Inc., should work almost entirely in English. The idea, he said, was a daring and drastic attempt to counter Japan’s shrinking place in the world. “Japanese people think it’s so difficult to speak English,” Mikitani said. “But we need to break the shell"...more...

I still have all these idiots here telling me how English is so easy to learn (in Japanese) and how Japanese is the most difficult language in the world. After they demo a lil of their mad eigo skills they think they are such masters in, it's hard to keep a straight face and 99% of the time the convo ends in me telling them something they're saying is wrong....while they defend it like their honor with "but but but my Nigerian English teacher always said this!!" or "but my Eikaiwa books (written by Japanese) say this is right!!"

I am in the process of a completing a PhD in pschyolinguistics, have lectured on communication in English and Japanese at universities in and out of the cuntry, worked extensively in the public and private sectors in language specialist roles and have a couple of decades' experience in a publishing industry, but my boss is a 22-year-old girl who spent 18 months at a community college in New York and delights in "correcting" my English for me.

Is she Japanese or non-Japanese?

I'm finding that the Mrs. has received some very dodgy English teaching (from both Japanese and native teachers) over the years, fortunately she's open to corrections.

As for your wife, I'm not surprised she has had troubles. The Engrish industry is a fucking fraud with just about everybody caught up in it ripped off in some way.

Not here, Mominlaw speak a perfect english... from Stains... taught by AliG...

(That's her fault if I speak like this btw, had to adapt my language so we could understand eachothers...)

For me Julie... I can't tell... she neither finish her sentence nor her ideas... refuse to use the proper verb or qualify a subject... male/female/plural it's all irrelevant information in her eyes...

It was the "my boss is a 22-year-old girl" bit that had me confused.

Ouch. I'm not looking forward to the day when I'm answering to someone half my age... but then again, programming talent isn't as subjective as language translation.
