Not that I want to defend McDee's but the sudden rash of objects being "found in the nuggets" sounds quite dodgy. Is this the dawn of the lawsuit era in Japan?

Even in America these cases wouldn't be worth pursuing because there was no damage to the customers.

I don't think the actual goal is actual litigation or even the threat of...even in the US, most of these issues are settled out of court (unless it's obviously BS....but even then, the loss of business can be enough motivation to pay for silence) But as you say, no damage, probably not going to yield much, if any, money.

On the other hand, Coligny's theory there might hold more water. Remember, even other retailers got their chicken from the same source didn't lose business like McDee's did. (Lawson was it?) Business is good when people don't trust the competition.

Woman finds 'dental material' in Japan McDonald's burger

A Japanese woman has claimed she discovered fragments identified as "dental material" in a McDonald's hamburger, the company said Friday, the latest in a series of food contamination woes for the fast-food giant.

The claim comes two days after McDonald's held a press conference where it acknowledged several foreign objects had been found in its food, including a human tooth in a container of french fries at an outlet in Osaka.

In television footage aired Friday, the unidentified woman told the Asahi network that she found three tiny fragments of what looked like teeth in a burger she bought at a McDonald's in northern Kushiro city in September.

"I took a bite and there was a crunch," the woman said, adding she initially thought it was a piece of sand or stone.

"I can't help thinking that it was (already) in the meat," the customer added, as she showed a picture of the objects.

A third-party examination determined the opaque white fragments were "dental material," according to company spokeswoman Miwa Yamamoto, who added that the substance is commonly used to fill cavities or in other dental work.

McDonald's, however, would not confirm the woman's claim that the fragments were inside her burger.

I found some filling material in my cheezeburger sometimes too...
Then I rush to my dentist, not a lawyer...

One day I found a bit of eggshell in an eggmacmuffin... The big surprise was that they apparently use real eggs in their foodstuff...

Fast food restaurants plagued by unwanted “ingredients”
Reported food contamination incidents in fast food restaurants have been a too often occurring news lately across the country.

In Okinawa, according to the Okinawa Prefecture Government, about eight-millimeter-long foreign object that looked like a melted piece of vinyl was discovered in a chicken and egg muffin in a McDonald’s restaurant on Highway 58 in Kuwae, Chatan Town, last November. The test results showed that the object was plastic, either polypropylene or polyethylene.

Following to the incident in Chatan, another incident was revealed at McDonald’s Shuri Ryubo store in Naha.

According to MacDonald’s officials, a woman bought a double cheeseburger on Dec. 17th, and a member of her family noticed a white, about three-centimeter long piece of Styrofoam in the burger. No health damage has been reported regarding either incident.

In addition to McDonald’s, Yoshinoya that is a nation-wide restaurant chain specializing in Gyudon meat bowl meals, a customer discovered a 2 or 3-centimeter-long dead worm in his dish of Taco Rice in Yoshinoya store on Route 330 in Ganeko, Ginowan.

According to Yoshinoya officials in Naha, the worm had been in the lettuce that topped the Taco Rice that was ordered by a 20-year-old man on Jan. 7th. The lettuce was delivered to the restaurant by a company related factory in Itoman City. The result of the company investigation concluded that somehow the cleaning process had failed to remove the worm.

Japan Is Saying Sayonara to McDonald's Corp.

McDonald's (NYSE: MCD ) got a dose of good news this week as same-store sales in the U.S. improved 0.4% in January, marking the first time domestic comps have increased in two consecutive months since October 2013. Same-store sales in Europe also crept higher, up 0.5%, but the Asia/Pacific region continued to be a headache as comps dropped 12.6% in the region.

Japan, in particular, has been a nightmare for Ronald & Co. as comps in the world's third-biggest economy fell by a whopping 39% last month, and McDonald's Japan posted its first operating loss since 2001 last year. McDonald's Corp holds a 49.9% stake in the Japanese unit, which makes up the fast-food king's second-biggest market with over 3,000 locations. McDonald's struggles in Japan have been overshadowed by the company's domestic woes and image problems, but with a 39% drop in same-store sales they clearly can't be ignored. Let's take a closer look at what's ailing the Golden Arches in the Land of the Rising Sun.

I think the new strategy is to get even more ketchi with everything. If they can save 0.00000001Yen on each order, they can call if progress?? Friend I was out with yesterday insisted on McDee's for lunch. (Shopping mall) After some protest, it was clear I wasn't going to win so I conceded...went to pick up the order and when I asked for ketchup for the fries, was met with a bunch teeth sucking and apologies about how they didn't have any ketchup. I'm used to the usual panic moments the workers experience when you insult their family, honor, and humanity by asking for more than one ketchup packet...but no ketchup available was a new one. I asked if that meant there was no ketchup on my burger...the look of confusion was priceless....indeed there was....so I asked if they could just squirt some in a cup and let me be on my way. This took another few minutes since she had to flag down the manager and explain the entire situation. She got the teeth sucking from the manager as well but then she saw I was FG, smiled, and I was on my way with a S-size cup full of ketchup. (and my friend's custom burger...the ketchup drama took so long the pager they originally put on the tray was useless)

The french McDos don't have mayonnaise but instead give "pomme frite sauce" (fried potato sauce) since unlike here in Chimpland we have a defined language and legal boundaries you can't put any name you want on random shit and call it a day. Basically the yellow paste they serve is certainly too far away from the normal mayonnaise recipe to be allowed to bear that name without being labelled as a fraud.

(yet they still allow the sale of Lexus... not everything is perfect I guess...)

Well at least this is a new development in the "Japanese language does not have the logical rigour and standards I demand" meme from Choko. French too, huh? Where do they get off calling potatoes "ground apples" anyway?

If only these languages could be as perfect as English.

In Dutch for a starter.

Aardappel is the word we use, made up from "aard" (standing for soil or earth) and "appel" (standing for,..., OK you can guess).

Not nearly as logical as English which adopted the name potato from the Carib word for sweet potatoes ..... wait .... what?

Hmm, in some parts of the Netherlands they call them "piepers" (like my granny from the eastern part did).

That would translate to something that makes a "peep" sound, so the name doesn't make too much sense.

The word also vaguely resembles "potatoes", though.
