Xmas flight prices

Postby BigInJapan » Tue Oct 02, 2012 9:55 pm

chokonen888 wrote:Who else is leaving fleeing the cuntry for Christmas? 84,000 from Narita to LA on Singapore is about half what I paid last year and I'll be back in time for all the Shogatsu fun.

Dang, last time I went home it was something like 170,000 yen (but that was at Obon - had no choice).
So I looked on the No. 1 Travel site, and it seems that JAL flights to Vancouver (LA is about the same) around 40,000 - 50,000 yen through Dec/Jan - WTF?
Then I noticed the fine print: This price is only an airline ticket price. Fuel surcharge is not included. >>>Detail (Japanese.)
Aha... 44,000 for the flight, plus 42,000 fuel surcharge is still half what it used to be.
Is this right? I guess the high yen has something to do with it, but it still feels a lot cheaper than it used to be.

I hate how they can pull this shit...advertising without displaying hidden costs sucks. Not that truth carries much weight in this cuntry, but still...

Yeah, I think my ticket is something like 32,000yen and 42,000yen of the toal is fuel surcharge. Japan has some, if not the highest, fuel surcharges in the world. All the foreign airlines complain but like so many other things, there is a lot of teeth sucking and the usual "We Japanese" do things differently explanation.

If you leave before Dec 22nd and come back by the 30th, you can get to most major cities in the US for between 85,000 and 100,000 yen this year. A lot better than last year but I hate flying home for Xmas and not sticking around for New Years. Shogatsu in Japan sucks balls.

Ottawa Narita, even by shinkansen, i hope you got books or free wifi... (but then again, maybe, like me you can stare at clouds/landscape for 15hours straight without feeling bored...)

Postby Taro Toporific » Fri Nov 02, 2012 12:10 am

These Kurisumasu Donatsu are going to be rather stale when left out on Christmas Eve for Santakurosu.

Just two days ago it was a Halloween Colonel at KFC Japan.

But today, Danny Choo just tweeted that it’s already time for Colonel Christmas on the streets of Akihabara.

The neighbours two doors down have as of last night decorated the mini-conifers in their garden with Christmas lights, so that means the traditional Japanese Christmas season is now officially upon us.

I put up some lights on one of our trees outside last year (after Dec. 1st of course), along with a plywood Santa I made.
Might switch the lights to the eaves of the roof this year for something different.

Now this is good information. I don't mind dropping down 80,000 yen to fly back to L.A. for a bit. The fuel surcharge is totally unacceptable. I haven't been home in years!

Not Japanese Kurisumasu, but definitely retarded (even though I still love Livvy, regardless of the fact that she is now made out of plastic <and not made very well, either...>)

This couple are scarier than zombies, monsters, vampires, clowns and constant showings of Twilight...combined...

Yeah, of course, but that's beside the point....(I can still remember when she was a go-go dancer, which was before she became a C&W singer, which came before Grease, so there's also an element of sentimentality as well as just the purely mental side involved...)

Just between you, me and the entire world on the Internet, mind you, I reckon Our Livvy might be a little harder to get along with than many suspect. I, like most Aussies adore her and I've never seen her be anything but unfailingly polite and kind, but the reality is that she aint got a great track record...best friend no longer talking to her, ex-husband who became a recluse living in a wigwam, their daughter plagued by numerous psychoses (and Osmondesque choppers), another hubby-to-be staging a disappearance to avoid having to marry her. I'm sure Livvy's shit doesn't stink (if, indeed, she does in fact defecate at all), but perhaps it might be better to believe that from a distance (that way, the shoddy panel beating job on her face doesn't stand out that much, either.)
