Nice generations Buraku, but you better go home before you get old in Japan. You'll starve. There is not a hell of a lot of money coming to these oyaji's and baba's through the SS plan and unless they are a major player from a big company they ain't hitting it hard in the private sector on pension dust!

If by investing overseas, you mean moving overseas and retiring, that is happening. But as far as them investing, money charged through taxes and bank fees would negate any merit for investing small retirement amounts abroad.

Japan's Socioeconomic Time Bomb
OhMy News
Last autumn, when I joined a special tour to the Japanese Imperial Palace in Tokyo with members of an international friendship association, I met Inoue Hiraoka, 60, a Japanese woman who worked as a volunteer for the group. While we were waiting in the nearest station to the palace for other members, Hiraoka shared her experiences, saying, "In previous tours, many participants from other countries were surprised to find out that elderly people dominate such activities. If we enter the palace, we will join other groups, and most of them are people at my age or over."

Thanks to Hiraoka's explanation, I was ready to anticipate hundreds of elderly people lining up in the palace's guest hall. As a foreigner who has been living in Tokyo for more than two years, I have become familiar with seeing elderly people everywhere. But this was the first time that I had seen hundreds of them, split into small groups, ready for a one and a half hour tour. In fact, some of them came from outside Tokyo and had been waiting for months to join the tour.

At the time, I recalled the papers and TV news explaining the serious problem of the aging population in Japan. I am in the midst of them, the aging population in the country with the lowest birth rate in the world....more...

Jeezus - I read this shit and weep. Maybe they should try the obvious:

a) Relax the immigration laws a bit.
b) Encourage those who DO and ARE making kids by some reasonable tax cuts and perhaps even reasonably priced or subsidized daycare.
c) Provide paternity leave.

But the real problem is basic Japanese greed culture -

a) What OL in HER right mind would get married when she's riding the bubble parent's gravy train?

b) What Salaryman in HIS right mind would give up enjo-kosai, PS, deai-kei, soapland, delivery this and that, kabakura, oppai pub, snack, health, karaoke-deri, image, esute and casual tosatsu or nozoki for a long term relationship or <gack> marriage with family?

2.3 Trillion? Hmmm, should be able to convince a few couples to relax and have a few more kids... maybe 40acres and a water buffalo, too?

I agree with your points DrP. But ask the average J-Person and they'll tell ya: "We don't need no more stinkin' gaijins here" and I don't see that attitude changing anytime soon, do you?
Tax cuts from the Japanese Government? Could someone on this board tell us about the last time that happened? I'm guessing never.
My son and his J-Wife, who live in Japan, just had a son in July and believe it or not she got one years maternity leave With Pay from her employer. So I guess some companies are doing some things to hang on to their employees.

Congratulations Ojiiiisan! Our people have gone to the same policy. One of our girls just took the year. However, in her case I think she also had to run down the father, along with giving birth.

Uhhh... maybe they should start by changing the law like every other freakin' country in the world to where PREGNANCY WILL BE COVERED BY INSURANCE. I find it amazing that Japan releases reports about this, yet if you end up pregnant, you have to pay out_of_your_pocket for every visit, test, etc. instead of only having to pay x amount due to coverage. Sure, depending on where you live in Tokyo, you get a small amount back (Y300,000-500,000), but that doesn't nearly cover the expenses incurred throughout the pregnancy, not to mention the actual birth.

There are two main issues here.
1. The Japanese Government has to stop treating this as a Women's problem i.e. Stop saying its a womens choice to work, not get married etc.
2.Deep-rooted social beliefs have to change faster than they are i.e having children out of wedlock, not thinking badly of women who work and have children.
Actually there are way more than two issues here but i could go on about this for ages since its basically what i spend my days researching and writing on ><

My staff are desperate for me to have a kid and they said that if I do, I should bring the kid into work and they will take care of it during the day - I think they are just looking for a way to play with a baby to avoid work.

How about the Yentas of Beverly Hills? Can they all move to Hokkaido, too? Actually, can we just make them forcible resettle somewhere where I don't have to deal with them when I go home for mom's kreplach.

That sounds really sukebe.

I agree with IchigoGirl - but I wonder why <they> need to spend ANY money figuring this out. The guys (who run the government) are getting all the p*ssy in the world without being married. And the chicks are happy shopping until they drop, or variously providing simple sexual favors for said brand goods which they crave. So - both sides needs are being met, completely. Nothing is broken. Japan is working like any good nation should! The only biological clock a j-chick has is the one that tells her when the next Louis Vuitton release is scheduled. And the guys are never more than 5min walk and 8000yen away from a blowjob.

Kibbutz in Hokkaido is probably one of the better ideas I've heard - and I'll never admit to agreeing to anything with Takepoo. Matzo's and oppai go well together/.

a) I agree

b) Cut taxes and provide subsidized daycare at the same time? Ain't gonna happen. As a person who doesn't want to have children I'm against this anyway.

c) Who are "they"? If you mean government mandated paternity leave, I'm against it. Maternity leave too. Companies should not be forced to do either.

Japan just released August data for the Tertiary index which is always an interesting series to watch for the light it sheds on how Japanese are leading their lives. There was actually an unexpected a 20% m-o-m spike in the wedding hall report.

Elderly people make up 22.1 percent of the population as of earlier this year, and this level is forecast to rise to nearly 30 percent by 2020. This growth would result in a needed increase of about 800 billion yen a year in social security spending.

Workers Urged: Go Home and Multiply

Image

http://edition.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/asiapcf/01/26/canon.babies/index.html
Even before one reaches the front door of Canon's headquarters in Tokyo, one can sense the virtual stampede of employees pouring out of the building exactly at 5:30 p.m.

Japan's birth rate of 1.34 is below the level needed to maintain the country's population.

In a country where 12-hour workdays are common, the electronics giant has taken to letting its employees leave early twice a week for a rather unusual reason: to encourage them to have more babies.

"Canon has a very strong birth planning program," says the company's spokesman Hiroshi Yoshinaga. "Sending workers home early to be with their families is a part of it."

Japan in the midst of an unprecedented recession, so corporations are being asked to work toward fixing another major problem: the country's low birthrate.

At 1.34, the birthrate is well below the 2.0 needed to maintain Japan's population, according to the country's Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare.

Keidanren, Japan's largest business group, with 1,300 major international corporations as members, has issued a plea to its members to let workers go home early to spend time with their families and help Japan with its pressing social problem...
Is daddy in that pic an FG?

I saw the local news reporting that salaryslaves were actually working longer because of the economic troubles.. So, which is it?

In December I got called into the big boss's office and he informed me that owing to the world economic crisis that there would be a slowdown in the number of translations that would wind up on my desk starting from January. He punctuated it with a "don't do them so fast, enjoy them." Pervert.

Since Jan 5th, I've had 3x the number of translation-related messes to deal with at work than I did last year and they are punctuated with a "Yes, we can!" Who the fuck is "we"?

I'd better be getting a damn raise in April.
