All jokes aside, I do think Kanchou has a point.

I may appear to be talking out both sides of my mouth, here, but bear with me.

Porn is a legalized form of prostitution where the prostitue (male or female) isn't pimped just once, but multiple times from a single sex act. Meaning the pimp makes money over and over again, without the whore having to go to the sheets again. What is the return they get?
The whole system also makes them dependent on their pimp (production house).

There IS also a social stigma to being a whore. Whether on film, in a brothel or on a corner. Of course there are corners of society where people just don't care what someone's background is, but in truth, the average guy would rather not hook up with a whore. This is the damaged marriage prospects Kanchou spoke of. I feel the same way, though there are a couple that I would have made an exception for. One was Ai Iijima. One reason was how she got into porn and the other was her intelligence.

Of course not everyone becomes a whore for the same reasons. Some for easy money. Some for the fame (in the case of porn). Others because they just like sex and would like to get paid for what they love to do. (Tia Ling fits this.)

So sometimes societal prejudice is mitigated by the reasonings of the person for entering that lifestyle.

Though in truth, I believe there should be another option available than getting paid for having sex. I don't beleive women should need to strip or prostitute themselves for money. Is it an option, sure, but I think it sucks that society can't think of another way. I know women who have chosen that route. Some try to act cold and say it was just a job, but not one of them has come away from it unscarred.

Bit of a ramble, but there are points on both side of the aisle, but in the balance, it'd be better NOT to do such things.

Were do you put the split triggering a "violence against women" flagging, masseuse, porn star, nurse ? Because aside from the social drama revolving around sex in order to empower religious entities, a porn carreer do not present that much more health and safety risk than A SHITLOAD of other jobs. I don't have the stats, but you have much more chance to end up dead before retirement if you are a truck driver than a porn star.
For the disease aspect, most porn studios have quite tough self control and regulation, meanwhile for a nurse, being in contact with potentially lethal pathology is not the result of a statistical anomaly or an accident, it's part of the job definition. And even with more or less carefull hygiene measure, it is mostly designed against bacterial threat (and not even working that well anymore)... containment for virus is INEXISTANT in any modern hospital outside of few specialized quarantined room were bedsheets are burned on a daily basis.

While the above is rather apropos nothing, it does serve to rather poetically illustrate society's never ending hypocrisy regarding the sex industry. Ultimately, the only question worth asking is whether there was any coercion involved. If the answer is a reasonable, "No", and this was truly just a business transaction involving sex between two (or more) consenting adults, then just let it be. No need to moralize and no need to ponder the greater societal ramifications as if this was some new, alarming phenomenon.
