She's a chef, so I think she may be in charge. What she did say was that she had to deal with a lot more racism back home being Asian. You know...the 'God damn Asians stealing our jobs!' type of racism, despite the fact she was born and raised there.

Wow, I didn't think Canada was that bad? Last Asian I met from there was from BC and kept talking about how surprised she was that we even had Asians in LA and how Asian Canada was. Besides her obviously ignorance, she seemed to not see a problem with Racism but then again, I assume BC is a bit more accepting that other parts of Canada.

If she was unaware thay there were Asians in LA, I wonder how much actual racism she would be able to recognize where ever she was?

Two Chinatowns (downtown and Monteray Park), two K-towns, Little Saigon, a Thai area, Hawaiian Gardens (if you're brave), and the 95% of the UC Irvine biology majors (circa 1988-2004), etc....can't throw a pair of chopsticks w/o hitting an asian person in LA/OC. Such an environment planted the seeds that blossomed into the debilitating case of YBF I presently succumb to as often as physically possible.

The 2010 census data shows districts in the San Gabriel Valley area with 50%-plus Asian populations. :D You certainly can't help noticing all the Chinese-owned office buildings when you drive east on the 10. And UCLA is nearly as Asian as UBC.

Damit SJ, that was totally uncalled for! You said "You're both pretty ignorant." There were actually three of us in that roundabout and I think it would only be polite if all three of us should be included in any further such germane and descriptive posts!

I'm 1/128 Delaware, does that qualify me to comment? Born in the USA, raised in Canuckistan, now adrift in The Land of the Nuclear Sun. Probably disqualified myself already.

Wikipedia was faster...

In August 2008, McGill University's Chancellor and International Olympic Committee representative Richard Pound made a statement in an interview with La Presse in which he said : "We must not forget that 400 years ago, Canada was a land of savages, with scarcely 10,000 inhabitants of European origin, while in China, we're talking about a 5,000-year-old civilization,"

There are notable records of slavery in Canada from the 17th century. More than half of all Canadian slaves were aboriginal,[citation needed] and the United Empire Loyalists brought their slaves with them after leaving what became the United States.

I dunno but he sounds a bit too optimistic if he thinks anything's changed in 400 years when it comes to "savages"

History is awful. Most people go through their lives believing that what they learned in high school history textbooks is true. It's a sad and disheartening thing for those people who read enough and learn enough that they have no choice but to let go of the myths.

It's easier to stay ignorant, painful to break out of the cocoon of myths.

Very true...but for all the atrocities that were committed against one's ancestors, you still have to deal with everyone one person at a time...blanket hate against any group just perpetuates the ignorance/hate. Being half white, I tend to be able stay neutral but I cringe when I hear other natives say "white people this! and "white people that" the same as I cringe when said "white people" make ignorant comments about natives. (basically, fuck the myth of "monoculture")

Norway gunman asks for Japanese psychiatrist

Postby Russell » Tue Aug 02, 2011 7:56 pm

The man behind the deadly twin attacks in Norway wants a Japanese psychiatrist to carry out his psychological evaluation, his lawyer says.

"My client has expressed a wish for a Japanese expert. This wish has to do with the concept of honour. He believes that a Japanese person will understand him better than someone from Europe," defence lawyer Geir Lippestad told financial newspaper Dagens Naeringsliv. more...

LOL. Will he also ask for a Japanese judge?

He's right. What could be more honorable than killing a bunch of unarmed kids? I'm sure the Japanese will relate.

It seems to me that he's not a very good white supremacist: he's raving on about the brilliance of Japan's monoculture, now he wants a Japanese pshrink.

Sounds kinda familiar to another nuthead I know...

Has nothing to do with me or guilt, it's the same reaction you probably get when some idiot says "Japan? I've been there, I think it was Taipai where I stayed but I can't read that chicken scratch writin' and that ching chong Jap talk." I cringe because there is it's just not worth replying. (which makes me wonder why I'm replying to you?)

There's actually a very pro-Asian group within the white supremacist movement. They don't want to live with them or have kids with them but they Admire Asian countries and culture for being hard-working, intelligent and against race mixing. Kind of like Muhammad Ali's meeting with the KKK back in the 70's.

Now that you mention it, I suppose that's the same reasoning the Boers had in South Africa, and even Jim Crow, to an extent.

Still, I can't help but think they are all as dumb as they sound .... except Ali, who rocks...literally, nowadays.
