sorta why we always go to arisugawa koen... no smoking near the brats and no obvious pedos

They removed smoking from the two small ones next to Yoyogi... it was there before until about 3 years ago, when they revamped it. But yes, I know what you mean. Fucks me off when it's there.

Samurai_Jerk wrote:IPU specifically mentioned people sitting in the smoking area.

i should have put quotes on that... the "smoking area" (de facto) is the fuckin bench right in front of the playground or the tables where you are supposed to eat.

i dont mind if people smoke on the street near kids, cause it is common area and having fucked location smoking areas like the states is close to nazi like.

but smoking at a park in front of the playground or at the eating area is fucked. echo what chok said

I think his point is where they are doing it. I agree with you about darwin-style protection everywhere but when it comes to smoking, fuck em. It's more about the lack of manners many smokers display for those around them. Health risks aside, as Coligny pointed out, that shit stinks...and will make your clothes, hair, etc. stink. When there are alternatives to getting your tobacco fix other than crop dusting everyone else around you, it's pretty fucking rude to light up and expect everyone to be understanding while making their food, drink, etc. taste like shit or fucking up anyone with respiratory conditions/allergies day/night. Then there are those assholes who smoke in non-smoking areas. No hissy fit or lecture, I've bitch slapped more than a few in Shinjuku for showering me with smoke. (if you haven't guessed by now, I hate cigarette smoke)

and to agree with you on one thing SJ... i hate it when kids just start running around in the street or other public places where their parents should be watching them or at least telling them to go to an area that wont bother people or get them killed.

funny how Japanese parents will tell their kids not to do something repetitively and just sit there and watch them do it... if they don't listen to what you say, you have to discipline them...

gaijinpunch wrote:Sure! I see what you mean, but while the suburbs may seem more ideal, if you can stomach the premium of Shibuya/Shinjuku area, you have 2 massive parks at your finger tips, and many small other ones. I can walk to Yoyogi or it's two neighboring kid parks (w/ jungle gyms and shit) and Shinjuku Gyoen is a hop, skip , and a jump. I jog in Yoyogi all the time... as I'm now looking for an apartment in preparation of becoming a statistic for this thread, I'm kicking, fighting, and screaming to stay in the neighborhood!

This is the area where I live (Yoyogi 4/Sangubashi) - we walk to/through Yoyogi park all the time. Where are these kids parks near Yoyogi? Jungle gyms? I am looking for an alternative to the Chuo park ones for my little guy.

Shinjuku Gyoen is lovely to walk around, but it is constantly patrolled by the fun police so you better not look like you are enjoying yourself or you will get spoken to. We are in Yoyogi most weekends as it is just fun to hang out with the gang and the kids and watch all the other freaks hanging out. Bring on summer baby.

I don't think I ever fully appreciated how disgusting cigarette smoke is until I became a non-smoker.

I always thought that people were over-reacting to it all and just being precious. But now as a non smoker (over 2 years now - yay me), I nearly want to puke if I get a faceful from a walking smoker and I can't sit and eat in cafe's or restaurants that allow smoking anymore.

I think when you are a smoker, you are desensitized to OP's second hand smoke. :smoking:

I went there last weekend with my kids and we couldn't find any jungle gyms or nothing like that. there is a dog park there that you can show your kids. my younger son loves dogs so he just stands and watches them while my older son plays with sticks and what not.

My kid just adores dogs and gets so excited and points to every one he sees - which in Tokyo is about every 5 metres or so. Might take him to the dog run this weekend - he is only little so he is cheap to entertain.

Just as long as you don't pass one of those random stands that sells balls or little toys to play with at the park... i fell victim to that several times just going for a stroll...

Heard this from many people who quit. For months after he quit, my boss kept going on and on about how his sense of taste/smell was so much better. :D

You're lucky. If it was me, the minute you said second hand, I would have divorce you, before you got to smoke. BTW I've been sitting by the mail box and nobody from kuroneko has shown up. I think I'll go to the pub.....

Like kerosene... when you only use it for heating you think it stinks...

But when you use it for for the hundreds of other reason... well... it still stinks... but remind you of a flight deck at the same time...

Shinjuku Gyoen is lovely to walk around, but it is constantly patrolled by the fun police so you better not look like you are enjoying yourself or you will get spoken to.

Never heard of those busybodies... we got plenty of fake police cars with blue strobes on 'neighbourghood watch' (who seems to think the road and traffic law is not for them since they have a panda car...) But the parc nazis... no... might be linked to the sheer numbers of parcs... not enough stoopid to fill them all... But I might need to check on them before finishing and test driving my remote control Scud launcher MAZ 543 TEL...

Yep true. And after 20+ years of smoking not realising how bad it smells it and now given up it does stink.
