Yeah, stories about that type of incident are quite common. I, myself, even have to admit that I fell into the same category years ago.

Having the yellow fever at a young age, and being determined to have kanji plastered on my skin, found out only after meeting my wife that the kanji that is on me had a different meaning.
Fortunately, unlike others, mine was somewhat similar to what it was originally meant to say but with a twist. It did, however, fit my character.

I originally, thought it's meaning was "Brave, Warrior" Which would sum up my character. After I met my wife, I found out that it's true meaning(which is still a little vague) is " Brave, Wonder(wonder as in the world's wonders or mystery,mysterious)" This being more of the type of meaning for my life. As I am a mystery even to myself. :wall:

Fortunately, it was of a near meaning and wasn't so far fetched as others.

Here is the original kanji if you would like to decipher yourself. "竒勇"

The phrase "supermarket" is 超級市場 or abbreviated to 超市 in Chinese. I have no idea how and why 盟联行 was interpreted as "supermarket" in the news clips.
