Yeah, it's hilarious when superpowers violate the sovereignty of much weaker nations. Let's hope it leads to a war that kills millions of Filipinos. That would be really funny.

Samurai_Jerk wrote:Japan may give planes to Manila for South China Sea patrols

Japan wants to give planes to the Philippines that Manila could use for patrols in the South China Sea, sources said, a move that would deepen Tokyo's security ties with the Southeast Asian nation most at odds with Beijing over the disputed waterway.

Four sources with knowledge of the matter told Reuters that Japan was looking to offer three Beechcraft TC-90 King Air planes that could be fitted with basic surface and air surveillance radar.

They said talks within the Japanese government were preliminary and would need to overcome legal hurdles. Japan had yet to formally propose the planes as an alternative to more sophisticated Lockheed Martin P3-C aircraft that Manila wants to track Chinese submarine activity, they added.

Senior Philippine military and defense officials in Manila said they had not heard about the possible donation of the twin-turboprop TC-90 aircraft, which Japan uses to train military pilots.

"The Philippines doesn't have enough aircraft to conduct regular patrols over the South China Sea," one of the sources in Japan said, declining to be identified because he was not authorized to talk to the media.

Donating aircraft, even small planes, would represent a military upgrade for the Philippines, which has only a handful of fixed-wing planes it can deploy on maritime patrols.

Dear people from 3rd world shithole without indoor plumbing.
Take the Beechcrafts, don't go pretending you can maintain and operate P3 on your own...
Let alone pay for the fuel...

Chinese military down there hardly equates to "superpower" status but that's exactly what I was getting at...the absurd rhetoric that China regularly pushes to reclaim parts of "it's territory" won't be tolerated if it dared to attack the Philippines. No way in hell China won't be stopped before "millions of filipinos" are killed.

currently, the number of "the subjects" are already beyond 1000 people, according to the article.

comparing Taiwan with Kimcheland leads you to understand the latter ones persistent or even religious anti-japan sentiment is the result of political measures by their government, NOT the one of "less" the apology, reflection and compensation by J-government and J-ppl. of course Taiwanese excessive pro-japan sentiment is also the result of political measures by the government as well, though.

What is your point, and how is this related to the Senkaku islands?

You want to give those people the right to live there?!?

SYDNEY: A Japanese consortium eyeing a AUS$50 billion (US$35.68 billion) contract to build submarines for Australia irked local suppliers by failing to share key information about its proposal or discuss specific collaboration possibilities during a visit last week, executives at Australian firms said.

The apparent missteps underscore Japan's inexperience in bidding for global defence deals after Prime Minister Shinzo Abe ended a decades-old ban on weapons exports last year as part of his more muscular security agenda.

Japanese defence officials and executives from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Kawasaki Heavy Industries visited Adelaide, an Australian ship-building hub, to lobby for one of the world's most lucrative defence contracts.

The consortium's unwillingness during the trip to commit to building the 12 submarines in Australia, where manufacturing jobs are a hot-button political issue, was criticised by local politicians and labour unions.

http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/asi ... 91286.html

this article is totally bullshit. the style of writing cannot help but make me amazed and remind of the countries of capital letter C or K.
first of all, japan did NOT promote them the sale of the submarine. originally aussie side asked japan for buying the submarine.
and how can they lost jobs while they dont afford to build it themself. it means there are originally no employments to be lost from the beginning.
and why they so stick to japans submarine? if they are not satisfied with japans attitude, they can discard japan from the bidding whenever they want to. and just ask france or germany to build it. and will be fixed

Take....you misunderstand how this works. They weren't simply courted to be given a contract. I've bid on Japanese military contracts before, it's the same shit only here, Japan can't get a guaranteed contract with a few trips to the kyabakura and bribes.

Leave it to Japan to be the newb in the room, telling everyone what isn't allowed...while the man in charge is saying it's "fine."

At a briefing open to the media last Wednesday for scores of manufacturers, Rex Patrick, an Australian defence expert, asked the delegation how potential suppliers could engage with the delegation privately to explore cooperation opportunities, a practise experts told Reuters was common and expected.

The Japanese delegation responded by saying that discussing such "teaming" arrangements before the contract was awarded was not allowed under the bidding process.

However, Rear Admiral Greg Sammut, head of the Future Submarine Programme at the Australian Department of Defence, told Reuters that while bidders were not allowed to sign exclusive deals with suppliers during bidding, specific talks about future collaboration were fine.

Despite this delusion...

JAPAN BELIEVES VISIT WENT WELL

Members of the Japanese delegation insisted the visit went well.

I think you misread the article, Take. What I got from a quick read is that the article highlights the buffoonish ineptitude of Japanese engineering consortiums to adopt and accommodate normal business practices in favour of vague and evasive quibbling which only highlights their increasing irrelevance to interantional business and industry. They weren't suggesting that the Japanese were acting improperly, rather that they were incompetent amateurs.

Hope that helps settle any misunderstanding.

when aussie gov bought Leopards from germany, it was an exclusive deal as a matter of fact.
the story or bullshit that their some employments would be lost etc did not come up in conversation.

It basically reads that the Japanese companies aren't willing to allow local bogans build much of what they want to sell...whereas the other bidders from France and Germany recognize that utilizing local manufactures is needed in order to get the contract. Whether it's the lack of faith in kangaroo QC, wanting to keep profits higher with Japanese labor, or not wanting to share any of their tech with foreign manufacturers, it's pretty clear the no compromise approach isn't exactly a winning strategy.

Also...even if you allowed for some sort of exclusive contract from the get go, requirements that a certain % be manufactured domestically is very common...especially for military projects. If you can't be flexible there, you're not going to get contracts with any countries.

Wary of China, Japan and Vietnam boost security ties

Vietnam agreed with Japan on Tuesday to step up security cooperation, becoming the latest Southeast Asian country to seek closer ties with Tokyo as China maintains an assertive posture in disputed waters in the South China Sea.

The agreement between Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Vietnam's Communist Party chief Nguyen Phu Trong comes after a U.S. expert said on Monday China appeared to be carrying out preparatory work for a third airstrip in contested territory in the South China Sea.
