YOKOHAMA -- A U.S. citizen was arrested for arson on Tuesday after he admitted lighting a fire that razed a historic church in Yokohama, police said.
The 23-year-old suspect, Douglas Masaru Miller, a resident of Yokohama's Naka-ku, was arrested after he turned himself in to police at about 8 p.m. on Tuesday, saying he had set the Yokohama Yamate Sei Ko Kai church in Naka-ku on fire.
Police investigators said the 23-year-old set fire to a conference room next to the altar in the church at about 6:10 p.m. on Tuesday, razing 460 square meters of the two-story building.
