Kyodo via Japan Today: Belgian Embassy in Tokyo to be replaced by skyscraper
The Belgian Embassy in Tokyo will be torn down to make room for a skyscraper that will house a new embassy and additional floors will be rented out to fund renovations of Belgian embassies in other countries, the Belgian daily Het Belang van Limburg reported Friday. "We are not going to sell the ground of the Belgian residence in Tokyo," Foreign Minister Karel De Gucht said in an interview with the paper. "Selling the ground is impossible as the ground was a present from the Japanese emperor."
