I'm not so sure as to how the stars align up but Wednesday is

Chinese New Year, so Kung hei fat choy!

February 9, 2005 is the first day of the new year.
There are three ways to name a Chinese year:
By an animal (like a mascot). The new year is known as the Year of the Rooster.
There are 12 animal names; so by this system, year names are re-cycled every 12 years. More.
By its Former Name.
The new year is the year of Yiyou. By this system, the Name of the Year is repeated and re-cycled every 60 years.
It is Year 4702 by Chinese calendar.


And

N Korea's football team has arrived in Japan for a World Cup qualifying match that looks set to have political as well as footballing interests at stake.
It will be the first time the North Koreans have played internationally since 1994


Yes folks those naughty but nifty North Korean Nabobs of soccer are in town for a World Cup playoff.

Japan and North Korea are in Group B, along with Bahrain and Iran. South Korea, the 2002 World Cup semi-finalists, are in Group A with Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan and Kuwait.

The top two teams in each of the two Asian groups will qualify automatically for next year's World Cup in Germany.



So get out and celebrate the new Chinese New year by watching (or taking part in) the riots and punch ups at the national stadium.

Beats the hell out of taking a bath and going to the temple on Dec 31st right :D

I, for one, will be overjoyed to see the end of the year fly by.

Here in Tianjin, just prior to the start of the Chinese New Year every rugrat and his friend seems to have gathered around my apartment building to set off fireworks - every farking day, from about 10 in the morning to 9 at night. And no, we're not talking about sparklers or stuff with pretty colors, we're talking about gunshot-like bangs (which reverberate thanks to the layout of the apt complex) every ten minutes for hours on end.

I don't think there are many Chinese/ Korean here...anyway Happy Chinese/Lunar New Year to those who celebrate it. I am all excited like a child now... and I am glad FG that is back!
