(Mainichi and wire reports, March 9, 2005)
A Tokyo junior high school riot sparked by pupils being banned from attending a classical music concert in February because of inappropriate school uniforms resulted in arrests of children and injuries to teachers, police said Wednesday....
The boy and four others then attacked a group of eight teachers who went out to tackle them, kicking and pushing the educators...more...

...they had failed an inspection to determine whether their school uniforms were regulation. Donning helmets with Japanese and American flags, day-glo glasses, large bowties and jackets adorned with sashes proclaiming them "Sukebe", the boys started the corridor rampage in response.

Beware. When these kids grow up, they could be removing all the FG scum out of Japan. Wouldnt be the first time a country has turned on its minority community.

I say fucking right on to these kids.

Uniforms=Fascism

Any human being despite their age should have the right to wear anything they please (or nothing at all)

Any person who attempts to interfere with that basic human right deserves a crushed skull

I am actually in favor of uniforms for schools.
Kids having uniforms to wear would stop the showing
of belly and butts, not to mention that the kids would
have clothes that actually fit their bodies. Some parents
won't even buy the new clothes that their growing/expanding
kids need.

Plus it'd be nice to see people dress professionally for
school and work for a while.

Gotta agree that student uniforms don't bother me much at all. And having been witness to a near-identical situation in my JET days, it still frustrates me that even after 100 incidents of vandelism, the school still waited until 8 teachers were injured to call the cops. Looks like administration for "gimu-kyoiku" schools still have a hard time dealing with hardcore rebels...

All you FGs on the front lines must have some great stories to tell about this. The way I understand it, Japanese students may not be armed with guns but they are MORE more willing to riot than the average Western high school student. There is no way to expell a Japanese student under the age of 16(?), and the know it. 8O

Yah... And if half the school (or even a few students) decided to turn up naked that wouldn't interfere with anything?

Schools are places to study and learn, not for fashion shows or expressions of personal freedom through nudism. I have no problem with uniforms in schools.

Actually, I support the kid's right to wear what they please but I also support the teacher's right to force the kids to wear a uniform and in return I support the kid's right to riot and I also support society's right to rid the world of rioters. As long as nobody's right are violated I could care less what happens.

A Tokyo junior high school riot sparked by pupils being banned from attending a classical music concert

You gotta admit they love their Mozart! This may actually be the first riot over a classical concert since Stravinsky.

When his third ballet, The Rite of Spring, had its premiere in Paris in 1913, a riot erupted in the audience--spectators were shocked and outraged by its pagan primitivism, harsh dissonance, percussiveness, and pounding rhythms--but it too was recognized as a masterpiece and influenced composers all over the world.

I think you need to prioritize the rights. And lets add in one more: The right of the students who want to actually learn something to be able to do it -- hopefully not interrupted by streakers or rioters. ;)
