SENDAI--The driver of a truck, arrested this weekend in connection with three traffic deaths at two Sendai shopping arcades, poured kerosene over his body and tried to set himself on fire after crashing the truck.
Seiji Otomo, 38, was quoted by police as saying: "I just ran down people, and I want to die."
Otomo was arrested on suspicion of professional negligence and traffic violations resulting in the deaths of three people and injuries to three others. Police are also investigating the incident on suspicion of murder.
