Controversial Yasukuni Shrine, spiritual home of Japan's war dead, is offering potential fame and fortune to somebody who can come up with a song that will inspire a "liking for Japan and the Japanese" -- even if it's written in a foreign language such as Chinese or Korean.
Sukeihosankai, a support group formed to venerate those interred in Yasukuni Shrine, is holding Nippon no Uta (Japan's Song), a songwriting competition offering the winner 200,000 yen in cash and the production and marketing of a CD if they come up with a tune that will make people "like Japan and the Japanese."
