Kyodo via Yahoo: Majority of new hires vow to follow instructions against consciences
Nearly 65 percent of those who joined Japan's workforce this spring said they "will follow" or will "probably follow" superiors' instructions even if they find the instructions repugnant, according to a think tank survey released Friday. The results show the need to provide education for complying with the law, according to the Japan Management Association...But a researcher at the think tank said one of the reasons for the high figure was that the survey was conducted at a time when the respondents had just joined companies straight from school and they might still be preoccupied with securing their jobs. Still, 15.8 percent of the respondents said they "will follow" instructions that run contrary to their consciences, if the tasks would benefit their company. The percentage stood at 18.6 percent for male respondents and 8.3 percent for female respondents.
