In another of those 'Only in Japan stories'.
From the Daily Yomiuri
A Shiga Red Cross Blood Center section chief donated blood on six occasions between 2001 and 2004 under a fictitious name because he had been banned from doing so after testing positive for the HBc antibody, which indicates the presence of hepatitis B virus, sources said Friday.
The donated blood was processed into blood products and sent to medical institutes, the sources said...
A center employee said the antibody was detected when the section chief donated blood in June 1997, proscribing him from donating blood under Red Cross regulations.
But in August 2001, the man filled in another blood donor card giving a false address and age and writing his name in hiragana. He used the card to donate blood on six occasions at the center and other organizations, the employee said.
What was the hamster thinking? Was he trying to sabatoge the blood supply? Why was the guy allowed to keep his job?
