Hiragana novelty song mp3 online now!

Postby torasan » Sun Jul 24, 2005 2:06 am

A new global novelty song, dance tune, called "the Hiragana Song", written in English and a some Japanese, recorded in USA, ready to rock and roll, and it is especially useful for people who are just beginning to learn hiragana/katakana, and for anyone else it is entirely useless, but goofy and silly and worth a listen, since it's free.

to receive the mp3 files by email, send an email request to: EMAIL:

songsterhiragana AT gmail DOT com

read words here:

http://hiraganasong.blogspot.com

email us with HIRAGANA in the subject line, and they will send the mp3 file off to you, no SPAM, just a cute goofy oddball song about learning hiragana, out to conquer the non-Japanese world as a summer novelty song.

Free, no strings attached, unless they are strings of natto. Kidding.

No, he did. Torasan came up with this song a while ago. I haven't given it a listen yet but I probably will.

Right. I did come up with this song a while ago, and I just had it recorded in a studio in Texas by a country western singer there who does demos and he just sent me the files, so it's ready to go out to the world.

BUT

it is a just a goofy, silly, backyard, unprofessional, hoot of a song, so don't laff too hard when you hear it. Well, okay, laff if you wish. I sure did!

But it's a first step to a much more polished version down the road. I got about 50 requests so far, and sent the files out to all your asked for one. Hope it doesn't ruin your days.

Remember this: it's not serious, although it has serious intentions. Whether it becomes THE hot dance tune of the summer of 2005 is another matter, but if anyone finds it useful in helping beginning learners of hiragana to have some FUN learning the sounds, well, then,.... mission accomplished.

Cost me a few bucks. Took around six months from start to finish.

Have no idea why I did this. 8)

Woke up one morning with the song and the words in my head, almost like a dream, wrote them down at the breakfast table and starting looking around for some way to bring it to people around the world via the Web.

That's all. A lark. A hiragana lark. 8O

I doubt it will help anyone learn anything. But WE HAD FUN! :D

NOTE:
Letter from one listener today:
Hi H. Songster ,
Arigato gozaimasu, Thank you very much for the m-3 song file.
I enjoyed listening to it very much and truly would use it as my ring tone if I could just figure how it's done. I will certainly make some inquiries :) If I may with your permission of course . [PERMISSION GRANTED]
The only improvement I'd like to see/hear would be, is that it be made into a cingular cellphone selection - ring tone lol
Once again , Arigato
Signed

another note:

Dear Songster,

Thanks for sending me your song file.
To critique your song for you may take the fun of your intent away from it. In my opinion it is a lovely. lively , fun song . As for it's ability to inspire would be linguists majors .. .well......

I will say this .. the polished version may do just what your intent is .. make learning Nihongo easy for would be linguists .

This present version is somewhat hard to understand .. by that, I am referring to the proper pronunciation of both hiragana and katakana.
Just my opinion of course, please do not take offense for I truly like the song :)

sounds like it would fit nicely into a segment on Japanese language on Barney...2-6 years olds would dig this.

it sounds like someones in karaoke, but lost interest in the song they were singing or became so wasted they couldnt read the words on the tv screen... so they made up a new song...

Emperor, thanks for the good feedback. YES, exactly my thoughts, a teaching segment for kids, the Barney guys, 2-8 year olds, and anyone else who might want to listen, and this is just the .01 version, and recorded by a Texas country-western singer in his Dallas studio who never spoke a word of japanese before, so, yes, he messed up some of the sounds later on as the song goes on, sounds like he was drunk in a karaoke box, but no, he was just trying to read the words i emailed him. we did this all by email and i paid him like 2500 yen to record it and put it on a file for me.

Version .02 will be clearer, better, and easier to follow. Maybe spoken-sung by a native speaker.....?

Meanwhile, for anyone who wants a listen, pm me

if boingboing.net picks this up, we are in serious bandwidth trouble......

Feedback coming in from all over the world, amazing the reach that FG has. One listener wrote:

"I don't really see it as having a future as an aid to
learning Japanese. It was amusing, but even if it was
polished up, its just not catchy enough to be a
novelty song, IMHO. Keep on truckin' though."

Amusing is good enuf. That's all is was ever about.

More feedback from afar:

"Torasan, yes, songs are probably one of the best ways to learn a language.
Something like this thing you made......if cleaned up (the mix that is) could eventually
work. But it needs alot of work! Gambatte!"

Anybody know how to get the listen to this url on boingboing.net?

GomiGirl, GomiChild and GenKanai know the guy on Tokyo Bloggers ring who is one of the boingboing insiders. I only met him a couple times while I was fairly blasted on red plonk, so all the folks at the meet-up are mixed up in my mind.

["Torasan
Thanks for the song,
I like it, it's a good way to learn Hiragana.
You need to get a better singer though..."]

Get a girl to sing it. If you get a white FG, you might even attract some local J-interest.

Producer in LA writes:

Dear Torasan

Thanks for the email.

I'm sure you have a great concept.

You should look for a producer in Japan to demo the song for you.

You can find an up and coming producer / dj in Japan to work with you.
He
or she
may have contacts to some session singers as well.

I look forward to listen to your song once it's in demo form.

Best Regards,

Ruben

Someone suggested I put the song on iTunes. I am contacting Apple's Steve Job right now. I am sure he will love it.

torasan, congrats on the 1-on-1 interview with Scott Simon. But you didn't take advantage of being on National Public Radio to give the FG site a mention! Awww..
